This guy thinks he has a lot of screens in his life? Apparently he's never met some of you guys. Hell, look through our display forums, there are people that have six monitors on their main rig, three on their secondary PC, a laptop or two and several tablet / phone devices. How many screens do you have in your life?

Is 8 Enough? After all, I already have at least eight screens in my regular rotation. And that doesn’t count spares, backups and obsolete or little-used devices still hanging around the house. Nor does it include the many devices owned and used by other members of my household – don’t ask, that number is truly shocking. Still, I know that eight is an absurd collection of screens for one person. Or is it?

That has to be the dumbest article I have ever read.

"I have eight screens, I don't see why I would by an iPad Mini."

Because I am sure Apples target audience is that asshole. He clearly is self involved enough.

Don't take too much offense...

I guess I'm truly not [H] enough since my total screen count (not total that I view regularly, but complete count of potential screens) is 7, with 3 being used regularly (work pc, home pc, phone). I fail at digital life.

for those who can't view the page, writer says he has 8 screens:
1. 3.5-inch iPhone (being upgraded to 4-inches!)
2. 7-inch Nexus 7 tablet
3. 9.7-inch iPad 2
4. 24-inch monitor for Windows 7 desktop PC in home office
5. 21.3-inch second monitor for Windows 7 PC
6. 13.3-inch screen on ReadWrite laptop
7. 24-inch external monitor for ReadWrite laptop
8. 50-inch plasma TV

That's nothing, especially if they're all in different rooms.

you can never have too many screens, especially for Eyefinity porno mode.

I have 16 screens. 1 phone, 4 tablets, 3 laptops, 2 desktops w/2 monitors each, 3 TVs, one Hand-held gaming device.

Admittedly I am married and have a child so my devices are shared amongst three people. But if I was single like I assume the writer is I would probably still have 14 screens. I would likely just have 1 less tablet and 1 less TV.

And I am not including Cameras. In that case I would jump up to 21 screens!!!

At first I was under the impression that all the screens were attached to a single computer.

Suddenly this article doesn't seem as cool anymore...

It's not the quantity but the quality, I would trade half the screens in my life for just one 1440/1600p 120mhzer

At least 4 monitors, 3 laptops, a psp, 2 phones, a monitor on a sensor, tv, 1 on the network print/scanner, 2 on the video camera, 2 on each of the still cameras (main and viewfinder), one on the controller, 1 on the mixer, thats at least 21...

But still not enough monitors to make a supercomputer!

And I'm adding 2 more 22-24" monitors once i get my new system online.
You can NEVER have too much information in front of you for all sorts of applications all running on multiple systems at once.

Is your cat's name MANTIS? :p

Let's talk Ethernet ports and virtual network interfaces...

6 should be all that's necessary once we get 4K video cave projection... Then just live in the cave and you'll have no need for another display.

Shoot. I have 12 around me right now. And that's just in my den.

1 iphone 3gs
1 macbook pro
1 acer laptop

ps3 media tv:
1 42" toshiba tv

dell q6600 desktop:
1 27" samsung

on a mac pro:
1 23" dell u2310hm
1 22" viewsonic
1 20" asus

on a couple web production/development servers
1 19" 4:3 asus
1 17" 4:3 kds

so that makes 10? i'm married so my wife uses some of these devices, but as an IT professional (web/media developer and photographer) I don't think these numbers are out of the ordinary.

Yea, that's what I thought. 8? Not bad. Oh... 8 screens on various devices? Ah, a newb.

I thought he had 8 LCDs on his desk which would be [H] territory. But he is counting everything he owns... H

I have as many screens as I need. Which currently is 3 at home and 2 at work. Split between a netbook, phone, TV (unused really), and a dual monitor setup at work.

The real question is: how many tools do you need to solve a problem? Many toolboxes have more than one screwdriver because sometimes you need more torque (Workstation) or more mobility (phone).

That fucking cat is about to eye laser you out of existence.

I only have 5 that I own, and two others related to work:

Home PC Monitor - 27" 2560x1440 Monitof
iPad - so sue me, it makes a good magazine and comic book reader :)
iPhone
Screen for LCD projector (120") - the Porn ... I MEAN MOVIES are really excellent on that screen

I have a laptop from work, one work monitor (22") and my old home monitor (24" 1920x1200) at the office

:D

I tried using dual monitors on my PC for a while. I found myself using the second monitor so little that I gave it away. I can't imagine there being so much information that I absolutely must have simultaneously to justify some of the 3- 4- or 5+ monitor rigs I've seen.

It all depends on the need. I constantly use dual monitors and it most definitively accelerates my work. While I can see 3 monitors being my maximum some task require more. Like a command center. If I did video work I'd need a minimum of 3 monitors: One for fullscreen playback to check colors and accuracy, one for editing and a third for tooling, stats, etc. It is all about having the tools for the task.

Hmm have 8 screens in my office just 4 on my pc but 8 total and let me count I guess 18 in the house plus a few in the garage... :/ Do pojectors count? have 4 of those... they use lcd right LOL..

Well There is a reason for 4 screens if you are a game I have the 4 on a 670 and three are used for games and 4th for teamspeak cpu gpu dive network monitor in a 3 bottom 1 center top config this woks great. More than that has no reason you cannot actually pay attention to more IMHO please explain if i am wrong.

Thent

I thought this was gonna be about monitors on your computer, not screens on every device he has. This article is stupid.
