I have an old Sony Trinitron 480i 36" tube tv and am wondering if the Wii U would look horrible on it?

The Wii does not come with component cables. You will either need the ones from a Wii or to purchase them.

As for how it would look? 480i is awful as is, so the answer is awful :)

How is a XB1 or PS4 on old tvs? They all are 1080p over HDMI, same as WiiU

The TV is for all my old console systems in my man cave.

The wife is usually watching tv on the 70" plasma so no hdtv for me.

Does Wii-U even allow you to run it in SD? PS4/One does not.

But yah, the Wii U Video output port is the same as Wii, so you can try basic Wii composite cable (Yellow) with Red/White stereo.

Wii U supports all TV resolutions from 480i to 1080p 4:3 and 16:9 ratios where supported. A Wii U should look fine on a CRT

lol.. eyah.. 480i kinda stinks.. hwave you thought about maybe trying to find a hi def crt so you can get the benefits of a crt for your old systems, and still reap the benefits of hi def of the newer systems?

I have a sony 955 super fine pitch trinitron and it rocks both old systems and newer ones.

fine as in it works.

CRT > LCD any day of the week when it comes to color accuracy...

I'd argue a good LCD or Plasma at 1080p will look much crisper than even a high end crt at 480i. The resolution is just too much of a difference. LCD/Plasma tech has come a long way.

of course the pix is sharp but that does not equate to color accuracy.... LCD and plasma > CRT in terms of geometry and focus...

find a decent LCD/Plasma and call it a day. If you find a good one those old consoles will look just fine.

I think there might be a bigger problem here...
You need to talk to your wife about some ground rules, she can't hog the tv! :p

We have our Wii-U hooked up to our 46" living room tv, but my wife likes to watch me play games and also plays a bunch with me. Heck, she even gets mad at me if I go too long without playing some games with her, haha.
