How do you install a slimline DVD Rom?

I need to install a slimline DVD Rom in a server I'm building. I have the slimline -> IDE adapter piece that has the 4 pin mini molex power adapter.

How do I do it? I installed it and the system isn't recognizing it. Are slimline drives always in cable select? Is there a way to change them? I tried putting the drive in my laptop and the laptop wouldn't recognize it either. The drive is getting power because I can see the light light up on the front, and the drive will pop open.

Any help would be appreciated.

Slimline drives should work as single drive on a channel.

But there are some models where different firmware for master, slave, CS and inverted CS is available. Check rpc1.org for information about your drive.
