Nope, not that either, that setting is already off, if i turn it on it puts the picture im talking about on the first screen when the computer turn on that you must click on in order to get to the screen where you type your password, On the actual screen were you type the password. Im trying to disable that stupid picture screen before the login screen because I dont want to have to click on the fucker to get it to disappear so i can type my password, using the keyboard there is no way to make it disappear, if that makes sense. Thanks.

Use the group policy editor and turn on "do not display lock screen" under personalization.

If your running a non group policy loving version of windows...

I believe (I don't run windows) you can still edit the registry
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Personalization
Create a 32bit Dword that says "NoLockScreen" and give it a value of 1.

If its not in the group policy or the registry entry doesn't work... sorry I haven't had a personal windows machine in a few years now. Of course I have to deal with that stupid OS from time to to professionally. I'm pretty sure I used the group policy lock screen disable not that long ago 6 months back or so and it worked fine. That was Win 10 enterprise though.

Yeah, good luck with switching to Linux just to escape the lock screen. If you cannot figure out how to even properly describe the lock screen and what you want, how do you expect to survive in Linux land? (I am giving you a hard time but, seriously dude, it is a basic thing and I think asking for help is good and all but not in the combative way in which you are approaching it.)

Same here. I just didn't take long enough to realise my suggestion was garbage. My bad.

not exactly an answer to your specific question...but...you can disable the password screen altogether by going into Run---> netplwiz

Well I haven't really used windows a lot the last few years and can't say I have messed with home much if ever other then cleaning porn infestations for dirty uncles.

All joking aside. Backup your registry (cause it can't hurt). You should be able to create a new key.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\ just go there and right click pretty sure that should give you a "new" option select new key and add Personalization . You should then be able to add the "NoLockScreen" 32bit dword entry and give it a value of 1.

That worked, I had to add the folder and the key manually. Thanks a million! n

Now if i could just block windows updates that keeps screwing things up, I have the process disabled but they still push through. I miss the days when your software did what you tell it to do, lol

These days... software does do exactly what you tell it. Unless your buying it from MS. (ok or apple... and perhaps from Google). lol Ok point is there are other options. But I'm glad you where able to fix this one annoyance.

Linux isn't an "option" to virtually everyone. Stop hijacking threads with it.

It's great you solved his problem. But leave it at that rather than shilling for Linux on the desktop every other word after.

You can't call yourself an evangelist if you don't evangelize.

He sort of threw me a soft ball there complaining about the windows lack of consumer level controls.

This does not make sense. You should be able to press Enter on that picture to get the login screen to display. It's what I do on Win10 Pro. I press enter (no mouse click needed) and the login screen displays with my username and I enter my password and hit enter and I'm at the desktop.

I figured he didn't want to have any extra interaction, mouse click or enter press, in order to get to the password box. I kinda get it as my work system goes to lock after a couple minutes and I have to click or hit a keyboard button before I can start typing my password. if I dont the first character in my password become the interaction that gets rid of the pic and my login fails.

Yes, I get that and that's what I thought too until reading what I quoted in my reply. I just thought it was weird that hitting enter (or any key really) doesn't bring up the login screen. I just tried it on my laptop and I randomly pressed the 'm' key and the login screen displayed, ready for me to type my password. Whatever.. it doesn't matter.

Not sure if it matters, but i use a wireless keyboard and mouse with a laptop, mouse works on that screen though, but keyboard doesnt. I do believe the laptop keyboard does but its plugged into the tv and not in a very convenient position to use. at any rate that screen is gone so now im good.
