How do I install a thermal probe to measure CPU temps?

I have a P4 2.4C and I want to mount a thermal probe to measure it's actual temp, just so I know whether the mobo temp reading is accurate.

Anyway, does anyone have pics of this being done?
I tried looking for guides on Google, but came empty.

From what I've heard, I just gotta thread the probe UNDER the CPU chip between the pins, then stick the probe to the underside of the cpu with tape. BUt isn't the underside of a P4C covered with transistors and stuff in the middle of the underside?

Help very much appreciated. :D

Can you just tape it touching the core of the proc?

That should give a real close core temp.

How can I? The P4 core is covered by the IHS and anything on top of that will interfere with proper heatsink seating anyway.
THe only way I've seen is to go under the cpu between the pins, but then where does the probe stick to?
