how do i edit grub without any live cd

how do i edit grub without any live cd , am i able to edit / is there a special command /sequence of keys to press during boot loeaderr menu

edit grub?
do you mean change a boot parameter? if you press "e" at the grub menu you can then go and edit any of the boot options. This will be temperary but enough to boot a system to then make such changes perminent


if you mean install one of grubs boot stages... you need a running linux todo that

i installed xp pro and open susue v11 .on to aspire one so no cd/dvd drive and i want to edit the boot loader to add memtest86 program

would i put the mem test program in a folder in windows c ddrive
ie. hddisk 0 partition 0 \ and point it to c:\memtest

just boot into SuSE and edit /boot/grub/menu.lst probably easier if you use memtest86 "from" linux (on a linux partition) anyway.
