i wanna share my harddrive out to my comps on my room but i dont want the computer upstairs to gain access to it

can i put a password on it?
if so how?

if you're using windows XP

open an explorer window (windows explorer) and go to Tools|Folder Options
Click on view.
the bottom option is "use simple file sharing"
turn that off.

Now you can set user permissions etc. when sharing files.

errrrr
ok here it is
i got 3 comps
1 is named 2k3
2 is named server
3 is named kitchen

they are on a work group
when i was trying to set permissions it was only listing users that was on this comp (2k3) it was not showing the other comps on the network

Since your not running a domain you need to set up the same username and passwords on the machine you want to share on and the ones you want to access it, your not going to see the accounts on one machine on another machine. After you set up the same local accounts and passwords everywhere just give the accounts you want to have access to your share.
