....for all your various software? And operating systems for that matter too. When a license is purchased, how are you tracking where its kept and currently being used, etc...?

We have physical folders (copies, acct gets the originals), inventory software (scans of physical documentation, PDFs of digital), and a couple network shares with scans of everything.

What inventory software are you using, if you dont mind me asking?

thanks.

a sharepoint list...

we actually have 2 sharepoint lists, one with licenses, and one with "installations"

the "installations" list has the machine asset number and the software license code in it, and when you add a new item to it, it automatically reduces the number of available licenses in the license list

pretty snazzy, if i do say so myself (i designed it)

spiceworks would be the easiest software that is free to use for asset management. It wont tell you the product key but you could probably script something like magic jellybean via a domain policy to push the program to each PC and have it autosave a txt file on a public share as \\server\PCNAME.txt

Through the Software Licenses module of BMC Software Track-It!.
