How about a 2240x1260 (16:9) 27" panel?

I currently own a Dell 2407WFP 24" monitor and love the 16:10 aspect ratio. It's 3 years old and still serving me quite well. At some point in the future, when it breaks down, I will have to replace it. When that day comes, I am assuming 16:10 will be a thing of the past since panel manufacturers seem hell bent on phasing them out.

So, if I want at least 1200 lines on my new monitor, with pixel pitch similar to that of a 16:10 24", what options do I have? The Dell U2711 at 2560x1400 has a pixel pitch 0.233mm, which is too small for my liking. The Dell 3008WFP at 2560x1600 has a pixel pitch of 0.25mm, which is still smaller than the 0.27mm pixel pitch of 16:10 24" panels. I am surprised that no panel manufacturers (to my knowledge) have produced a 27" panel with resolutions of 2240x1260. At such resolutions, the pixel pitch should be similar to that of 16:10 24" panels. The aspect ratio will also be 16:9, which the manufacturers will love. Fans of 16:10 1920x1200 may not like the 16:9 ratio, but at least they won't be losing out on vertical resolution, which seems to be the biggest complaint about 1920x1080.

What do you think? Is this a fair compromise for all? Personally, I would love to see a resurgence in 16:10 panels.

They won't do it because:

1). Its not cheaper to produce. Everyone's ramming 1920x1080 monitors down our throats because its cheaper to make since they can reuse HDTV production lines.

2). Apple isn't using it. 2560x1440 offerings came out because Apple was using it, and copying Apple is a favorite past time for alot of electronics companies.
