The Sabrent Rocket 1TB is back down to $99.18 on Amazon with coupon code 09FO8U6Q. I finally took the plunge and ordered one.

I bought my in Europe mid October and it was already single sided one.

I think Sabrent hasn't got too big stock and the double sided one is not findable anymore.

But if we look at the specs page on their website it seem that three versions could exists :
- Phison E12 + Toshiba 64L BiCS3 NAND + 1TB DRAM (DS)
- Phison E12 + Toshiba 96L BiCS4 NAND + ? DRAM (as far as I know it should be SS)
- Phison E12S + Micron 96L B27A NAND + 512MB DRAM (SS)

The most common is the first and the last one.

Thanks guys! I'll definitely report back. Hopefully I waited long enough. Was mainly waiting for the $100 price point to come back because I knew it had been there before and didn't want to overpay. :)

I was hoping the 2tb would drop below $200 for BF and then I could get rid of all but my external backup spindle drives.

I have 1.5tb of SSD’s so all said and done 4.5tb should set me up for some time...... maybe on cyber Monday :)

Going by the image on MicroCenter's website, the main difference between the 12.3 fw based SSDs and the 'new' Inland Premium 22.x's seems to be the use of Kingston DRAM instead of Hynix DRAM? I could see where you'd definitely need a different support chipset to support either.

Still need to get to the MicroCenter in Flushing to see..

Received my Sabrent 2.0TB.

It seems one of the latest batch with Sabrent's RKT303.1 custom firmware.

NAND on both side, but cache only on the front side. 4 flash per side (IMFT it seems).

My 1.0TB was an ECMF22.4 one with only 1 side populated and 4 IFMT NAND.

Results seems pretty close. The 2.0TB is quicker in every CDM tests but Seq read (3125MBps vs. 3475MBps).

1.0TB benchmark is with the SSD connected on a Ryzen 3700X.
2.0TB benchmark is on the same rig but the SSD onnected to an X570 chipset.

Is the smaller DRAM only for the 2TB model or for every capacity? I saw a review on Amazon that said that "the 2 TB models use the newer Phison E12S controller with half the DRAM," so does only the 2TB one have reduced DRAM?

According the Phison_nvme_flash_id2 tool (http://vlo.name:3000/ssdtool/), the both SSD are using Micron 96L 512Gb 3D TLC NAND and only 512MB DDR3-1600 DRAM.

So far I'm not too disappointed with the 2TB having only 512MB of cache. The speed seems good, at least on par with the 1TB one and far better than my previous Marvell SATA drives.

I bought the 2TB on Amazon.fr at 165 EUR VAT inc. so it was a really good deal (something like ~150 bucks in USA).

That's lower than the 660p, which is an inferior product, and about US$100 lower than similar drives sell for in the US last I checked. Very nice!

Got my Sabrent Rocket 1TB a couple of days ago but have been slammed with work so didn't get a chance to open it until just now.

Single-sided!

*I realize that this isn't an issue for many/most people but if your device is designed for a single-sided NVMe drive, it's good to know that there are more options than just the Samsungs, WD Black, etc. (which each have their own strengths and weaknesses - I think the Phisons are by far the best ban for the buck based on what I've seen and read). It would be nice if the SM2262EN based drives started coming in single-sided variants, as they are ranked up there among the best also and can be found for decent prices.

The E12S / BiCS4 version is double sided, at least I don't know of anyone who has a single sided one.
The smaller E12S controller and lower RAM amount are IIRC necessary to fit it onto one side, not just the denser flash - not 100% sure though.

How did you get a 165€ 2TB one? The lowest deal I saw was 225€, 300€ with a 25% off coupon.

Any E12S is (AFAIK) combined with half the DRAM they used with the E12 in the same size.
The 4TB is only available with E12S as per the specs page.

I would love to buy a 2TB without DRAM reduction, maybe Patriot still has those, and I suppose Corsair's MP510 should also not have the E12S - though a page earlier there's a MP510 with firmware implying E12.

I'm not sure how helpful this will be, but Sabrent has Acronis software available for cloning SSDs, including changing sector sizes:

https://www.sabrent.com/acronis/
Funny story behind this: when I was first posting about the Rocket's 4Kn cloning issues on Reddit, I was approached by an Acronis rep so they could fix their software. Less of an issue now since Sabrent ships it as 512e and also came out with a format utility. (and Acronis I do believe can handle it now)

I thought so, too, but I found an exception that I totally missed - I freely admit I f'd up on this one. Check out this drive from Toshiba: the layout is very similar, it has Phison power management, "12" on the controller - this is an E12/E12S. Yet if you look up the DRAM it's 4Gb/512MB for a 512GB SKU. Haven't checked the 1TB RD500 yet though.

Doesnt work in Windows 7 unfortunately, complains
"Read NVME ID error - exit! Possible incompatible NVME driver."
I had the same issue with Sabrent 512e converter, had to do it in windows 10 because the tool didnt see the drive in Windows 7.

Did you try using the included Win7 driver? in \drv\X64\Windows7_sign\Windows7\ ..

Funny story behind this: when I was first posting about the Rocket's 4Kn cloning issues on Reddit, I was approached by an Acronis rep so they could fix their software. Less of an issue now since Sabrent ships it as 512e and also came out with a format utility. (and Acronis I do believe can handle it now)
Good to see they are responsive to issues. When I worked IT, we used Acronis, and people would askk us if it was good. We say, "no, it's shitty. But they are all shitty and it's the best of they shitty solutions." It's also nice how you can use it for free, basically other than scheduling, if you boot into it on a flash drive or CD.

They weren't happy that a competitor (EaseUS) seemed to "solve" the issue first. I believe now it comes with the Rocket as well (downloadable on site).

The tool provides a generic NVMe driver from Realtek that allows it to work.
The NVME driver works great, around the same performance except 4K Q8T8 and Q32T1 are a little quicker.

Here are my drive stats

Unrelated to this thread but EaseUS has always been pretty solid for me, I've used their partition master to expand out system reserved partitions on servers before and it worked great.

Unrelated to this thread but EaseUS has always been pretty solid for me, I've used their partition master to expand out system reserved partitions on servers before and it worked great.
Oh yeah, I bought and use ToDo Backup Workstation and highly recommend it. It's 60% off all the time. It allows you to back up straight to a VM image which is very useful because I find a lot of people don't realize some saved passwords (e.g. Chrome) are linked to your Windows 10 account and you can't easily get them back without access to the original install.

I tell everyone that asks... for 1TB the phison drives. for 2TB the Intel 660p. Speaking from a value to performance perspective.

I still have my two 1tb drives since this thread started. Going strong. One is a dedicated games drive and gets used regularly.

I think with a coupon the lowest I got one for was around $80 plus tax at MC.

I've restored the previous Microsoft drivers using the Device Manager and it worked properly.
Sorry to report but this ended up shafting my OS install!

With the new driver installed, benchmarks and load speed were very good, as before the update.
But it took 1 to 2 seconds after clicking an icon before anything started to happen.
It didnt cease doing this and became very annoying so I rolled back the driver about 2.5 hours ago.

After rolling back to the original NVME driver Windows took about 10x longer to load, anything I try to do is so slow the computer is useless until it has finished, assuming it actually finishes!
I tried to update the video driver, it took 15 minutes to give me a 640x480 8 colour display saying the driver failed to install.
The computer was running so slow, it could barely do anything, this continued when returned to the desktop.
Around 10 minutes later it changed to 1080p res and was using the old video driver.
I checked resource monitor while this was happening, operations on the NVME drive were maxing out around 9MB/s.
It was constantly busy because it was backed up just trying to run windows and the cleanup of the driver install!

I installed the new NVME driver again in the vain hope it might restore usability but it didnt help.
The driver is correctly installed but my drives max speed is still around 9MB/s while running Windows, it doesnt run any faster.

Diskmark gives these figures.
It took 5 minutes to run with only 50MB size, interval of 3 seconds.

I am forced to restore a backup of my OS and copy any changed files into it.

edit:
It appears the drive is shafted now.
Using a backup of my OS without NVME drivers, running from a hard drive, installed the 2 KBs to get NVME support.
This is exactly the condition I first got my OS to work with this NVME drive.

Restoring a backup to the NVME drive removed the partition correctly and loaded the whole backup into ram but didnt write anything to the drive. I had to terminate the process to quit.
Testing performance of the games partition, it maxes out at 71MB/s, the same as the benchmark above.
Damn.

I tried to add the drive letter back to see if the OS partition was accessible.
It caused the disk management console to error saying it needs to be restarted.
On restart the console doesnt recognise the drive exists any more, time for a reboot ...

edit 2:
This might have been a co-incidental bad connection of the drive to the mobo.
I reseated the drive and performance is top notch again.
I'm restoring my OS back to it, I'll update what happens ...

edit3:
Yep, thats all it was, last thing I expected!
The drive works perfectly again.
Phew!
Apologies for the extended rant lol.

Inland Premium NVME SSD Internal Drive (2TB) is $215 and the Sabrent 2tb is $250..... any codes still working to bring them down and any reason to get one over the other?
Love my 1tb Sabrent but want to fill the other slot with a 2tb and lose 2 mechanical drives.
