My friend just picked up one.

DiamondMax 10 250GB PATA with 16MB cache. $109 with NO REBATES.

At Fry's in San Diego. Probably through CA as well.

Which Fry's in San diego? San Marcos or in the one near the stadium?

Seems like a good deal on a good HD with 16MB cache, too bad it isnt SATA, but who cares, its good enough for my server @ that price :p

thanks

Ordered last night and it came in this morning... quite impressive for regular ground shipping. :D

I don't mind the warrenty, I've had good luck with maxtors before. Besides... I've convinced myself if I keep each harddrive at about 30 degrees all the time there will be nothing that can go wrong.

You just keep on believing that. I for one have been bit by maxtor a few times and will settle for nothing less than a 3 year warranty, preferrably a 5 year.

Yeah, these days I only buy Seagate, though I just saw that all the DiamondMax series on NewEgg have 3 Year warranties... maybe there's a misprint on Outpost; I remember someone correcting me about Maxtor warranties in the past, too. Just confirmed it on Maxtor's Warranty Page!

In general:
Seagate - 5 Years
Fujitsu - 5 Years

Western Digital - 3 Years
Samsung - 3 Years
Hitachi - 3 Years

Excelstor - 1 Year (never heard of this company, found it on NewEgg)

Maxtor MaXLine - 5 Years
Maxtor DiamondMax - 3 Years
Maxtor Ultra Series - 1 Year
(Maxtor has several other Tiers of Warranty Time, see the link above for details)

There is only a 1 year on this one, from the inside of the packaging. I've been hit by Maxtor as well, I just don't care to much as this will just be random file storage.
