HoloLens Minecraft Demo

There are exciting times coming. 3d modeling would be so much easier.

That was the most interesting part of the xbox presentation.

I assume those were captured in real time through the hololens, and not a simulated one.

If this thing works like it's being shown, it falls under the "shut up and take my money" category. I'd pay a lot for something that worked like HoloLens.

I'd like to see some use in productivity apps too. data and information modeling could be very cool

Imagine the porn....

I think it was Drunk Tech Review on youtube that gave their opinions on the hololens and one of the guys said it was going to put the paper bag companies out of business because everyone is going to be overlaying videos over who they're funking.

A little off-topic, but maybe not:

Where does the accent come from that any "r" sounds like "w"!? I seem to hear this a lot from minecraft users and always assumed they were just very young and learning to talk properly, but I guess I'm wrong?

Anyways, the demo looks cool. Would love to try it. I agree there are tons of other interesting applications.

I'm thinking VR gear is whats going to really close the gap on "uncanny realism" factor or whatever it is that tricks your mind into believing computer graphics are reality.

The headbobbing sync'd with your own head, because your head is actually moving, is a bizarre sensation.

dang...I hadnt thought of it that way...a lot of marriages might be saved by this technology...we must pursue it aggressively!

I wouldn't say it closes the gap, but rather we have an easier time accepting something as a living cartoon than we do something that is trying to be more realistic. IMO we are barely entering the uncanny valley, all things considered. Some games like minecraft merely look like moving toys, but 3D human interaction is still a long ways off from being able to trick most people.

Remember what the Kinect demo looked like though?

If that is any indicator, Microsoft's demos in E3 aren't a reliable indicator of what the production unit is capable of.

Last I heard a few weeks ago was that the field of view was actually super narrow and the real life experience is completely different than advertised.

Haven't checked the E3 coverage because I'm at work but I don't think they resolved this issue yet.

Well for one thing the FOV is supposedly extremely limited with holelens - basically there's no periphery, you have to be looking dead ahead. Still, they gotta start somewhere.

VR is where its at for me though, since I've actually experienced it and the feeling of being elsewhere is something you can't really explain -- you have to experience it for yourself to realize how your brain gets tricked - in a good way ofcourse.

We require this technology!

Be nice to fix the FOV thing if it really is an issue.

you'll have my vote come next emperor election

this thing looks more and more impressive each time they show it

The actual viewport in the goggles is absolutely nothing like what they make you want to think.

I still don't really get minecraft...could they show something better than large pixels?

Not without it being much slower to render. There is Lego Worlds now, which is a good step up in resolution block-wise, and there are other voxel-based games that don't render blocks at all, but they are not as popular.

So instead of putting a paper bag over that person, you're putting a "paper bag" over yourself?
