Hogwarts Legacy on sale $14.99 /Epic

Is this game any decent? It seems like everyone I know played it for a couple of days and then I never heard about it again outside of GPU benchmarks.

So, apparently this game & Star Wars Jedi: Survivor both had late game bugs that made them difficult to continue playing shortly after their release. Both games would have saves broken, or require rolling back to earlier save states, but these are reportedly fixed.

Hogwarts Legacy came out earlier in 2023 and after a few months Jedi: Survivor stole away all the streamers, hence less representation and news. Jedi: Survivor had the worse save breaking bug to the point where, to my understanding, the developers patched it and said if you were impacted you had to entirely start over.

Then the streamers move on, as they do, and Baldur's Gate 3 came out a few weeks later.

It was also $15 during the Steam winter sale that ended January 1.

I know zip about harry potter but my daughter loves harry potter. Is this something I could play alongside her and enjoy with only casual harry potter knowledge?

From what I've heard, yes. I don't know much about Harry Pottereither but I'm going to play it myself. I got a steam key for it for $12.50 from greenmangaming a couple of weeks ago.

Maybe watch the movies first? :) They're really fun!

I got the 4k version last year when I got my 77" oled and holy moly are they good. Be leery of people that don't like HP.

I've been told by family the later movies are really compressed and don't make sense if you haven't read the books.
The book series build up to the Goblet of Fire is/was great....soft of okay after and deathly hollows is meh. But worth your time to read them, even if they are young adult books.

One thing I will say. Play lots of side quests! You can play the main quest and it will be over before you're ready. Happened to me and I was TRYING to stretch it out.

Agreed with the points of it's a good game on its own- you don't really need to know Potter's universe to enjoy. But there are tons of Easter eggs that will be better if you have read the books or seen the movies.

Is that the one with Han Solo or am I thinking of Star Trek?

The game seems to have all the good stuff in it already as I have used the FSR on this RX 6700 10GB with this Re Live recording, then on my other system I played using XeSS on the A770 , both run great at the VSync 60 setting, the game checks your hardware and gives you the best settings for your system, the Intel A770 was given Ultra settings to play at using XeSS.

Ray Tracing is also there if you have the balls to flip the switch, unknown about DLSS but I'm sure it works, lot of game for the price.

I'm on a 3080 and running DLSS balanced and all RT on, only stuff off is motion blur/depth of field/film grain. Runs fine, a little stutter but this isn't multiplayer- I want my graphics!
