High Refresh Rate LCD Monitor Question.

A quick question about high HZ monitors (120/144 Hz).

Can you create a custom resolution with any refresh rate between say 40 and 144 in nvidia control panel and the monitor will sync to that?
Lets say 2560x1440 @ 55Hz or 48Hz or 72Hz, will it sync?

If the panel supports up to 144Hz, one should be able to create custom resolution with any refresh rate he desires, is it not so????

No one seems to be able to give me straight answer in other threads....
 
you must test this on a case by case scenario. some monitors and TVs exhibit all the refresh rates between 24-144hz, some do not. You have any particular model in mind, just ask in the relevant thread.
 
Any of the ROG Swift G-Sync models or a 120/144 HZ PC monitor.
Anyone can do a quick test?

My rig is on order (with 4 of those monitors) - if you don't have an answer within the next few weeks, I'll run the test for you. Out of curiosity, why would you want to set a static refresh rate on g-sync monitors at all?
 
I need 29.97Hz. 30, 50Hz, 47.952 48Hz, 72Hz, 71.928, for video work.
And 55Hz for one specific game.

Common fellows... this is the biggest monitors forum on the web and no one cares to do a quick test.
 
Why would you want to do video work on a monitor that is designed to compensate for bad frame rates? Seems like you wouldn't know if your video was stuttering, choppy, dropping frames, etc until you tried it on a regular monitor. No factual basis for my comment so I could be 100% wrong.

All of the resolutions you requested report as out of range.

My setup is as follows:
ASUS ROG SWIFT
ASUS DCUII NVIDIA 670
3 Monitor setup with SWIFT on DP, and 2 other monitors on HDMI and DVI

I guess G-sync has to be enabled to utilize the full range of the panel.
What are the default refresh rates (60, 120, 144..) you can select in the drop down menu?

Maybe the software/game has to ask for G-sync to enable non standard refresh rates?

You are welcome. There are a lot of variables at play here, but I wanted to give you a superficial baseline answer. The default refresh rates are 60, 85, 100, 120, 144.

My test was with gsync disabled. With gsync enabled, the refresh rate will be variable, but it will match frame rate exactly.

The SWIFT has a dizzying amount of options and combinations and there may be a way to get it to work, but it is complicated to say the least lol.

So, can you enable G-sync and create static custom refresh rate for desktop, or only a game/software needs to ask for G-sync to enable it?
 
Things like this are why I will never buy a LCD. That monitor is perfectly capable of all the refresh rates you listed, but the idiot manufactures put artificial limits on it, for no valid reason.
 
I will tinker with it a little more as I get a chance, but I think the issue is inherent to the gsync module that runs the panel. There is no scaler here at all, the module does it all (or offloads it to the GPU).

I do not know about video content at full screen with gsync, but if any full screen game is at a constant frame rate, the monitor will refresh at that exact rate.

As I said, lots of complexity and options. This requires more investigation.
 
I had a few minutes at lunch and ran some videos in full screen with my VG248+Gsync...
The OSD reported it was in gsync mode and fraps' frame counter indicated 24 fps and 30 fps (matching the video). Didn't have time to try setting custom max refresh rates.
