Hide referrer?

Situation: I have a php script that will take a URL and hyperlink it. This is useful for when someone sends you a link in AIM that is some type of media that you do not want to stream, but download.

Problem: Some sites block referrers, making the page useless. Is there a way I can hide the referrer?

Also, what is the correct spelling? I see Referer in apache logs, but google tells me its referrer...

If you have Firefox, get the developer extension, and you can disable referrers. Oh, one is american spelling, one is british spelling.

You could create another page go.php which contains

<?php
header('Referer: ');
header('Location: ' . $_GET['url']);
?>

On you link.php page, you create the link like this http://mattmckay.org/go.php?url=http://somelinkhere.com

I don't know if it'd work, but i believe it should.
