I've got a Hercules 9800 Pro with TV out capability.

I believe it's an S-Video connection on the video card.

I would like to be able to display things on my TV (which does have an S-Video in) and to be able to record on my VCR (which also has an S-Video in and out).

My efforts to record TV out (on my previous card - a Ti4600) onto my VCR was not successful, it looked scrambled and B&W - may be it's Macrovision protection ??

Does my Hercules 9800 Pro have some form of TV out recording protection?

And if it does, I assume there's a way around it.

What resolution am I limited to on my TV - it's an old JVC 27" TV I purchased 10 years ago ?

So this is going to be my planned setup:

Video Card ---{A}---> VCR ---{B}---> TV

{A} is S-Video and RCA for audio (L & R)
{B} is standard TV coax cable (for video and audio)

And one more thing:

I would like the ability to record on my VCR while I'm playing a game.

That's the main reason I want to record the TV out is to be able to record a game while I'm playing it.

I know fraps can do it but with a penalty - your CPU and HD is being used concurrently while you're playing which degrades your game's performance.

I don't think there are any problems with that. I've seen it done on other ATi cards of the same gen, but I haven't tried it on my Hercules.

Max Res is 640x480, which is the max resolution that a TV will support.
