Help!! with what slots I can use on MB for video cards, MSI godlike Carbon

So I'm trying to figure out if I can run dual 1080 gtx's in slot 1 and slot 2 of this motherboard. The break down on the manual says.

• 5 x PCIe 3.0 x16 slots (PCI_E1~E4, PCI_E6), support up to 4-way mode
- 1-way mode: x16/ x0/ x0/ x0/ x0
- 2-way mode: x16/ x0/ x0/ x16/ x0*, x16/ x0/ x0/ x8/ x0**
- 3-way mode: x16/ x0/ x0/ x16/ x8*, x8/ x8/ x0/ x8/ x0**
- 4-way mode: x8/ x8/ x0/ x16/ x8*, x8/ x8/ x0/ x8/ x4**

I have a 5820k going in. Shows I need to use 1 and 4 for 16x and 8x speeds. So if I use 1 and 2 will it run 8x by 8x. Or will it not work at all? Reason is I'm doing a full water cooling setup and if I put the card in the 4th slot I can't get to the nvme slot and can't get the tubing to fit. If I run in 1 and 2 everything will fit perfect. But I have water blocks on everything and can't fire it up to test if 1 and 2 will work at 8x by 8x at this point. Any help would be great. Slots 1 & 2 should give you 8x8.

I agree with your assumption that slot 1 and 2 will produce an output of 8x8

Thanks every one.. have the cards in slot one and 2.. luckily I had a bridge for that spacing to work.
