it's a linksys wireless g router. On a freinds laptop I tried to get anything aol to work however it won't. I tried forwared the ports and triggering them but nope The ports I used are 5190-5193. Help? tia.

No port forwarding needed for AOHell. No special configuration needed on a router at all. Test this friends laptop by first seeing if it's connecting to the wireless, and properly setup on the router and able to go online. Use a normal web browser to test this, Internet Exploader.

If you can browse the web fine...then reconfigure AOHell...somewhere in the options, location, you can edit your connection type, telling it to use TCP LAN or something like that.

If you cannot browse the internet fine by first testing with a real browser....then you still have some configuration issues, and this computer is not setup on the router correctly, or the router is not setup to go online correctly. Any other PCs on this router which are connecting to the internet OK?

Yep IE works fine. Motorola modem -> linksys router -> desktop

The desktop can access aol/aim fine, however the laptop can't. Possibly something due to sp2 firewall?

You still didn't answer the question asked earlier. Can the laptop access the internet through IE on wireless? Yes - AOHell needs configured to use TCP/IP. You're better off uninstalling and reinstalling AOHell.

And no SP2 should not block AOL unless he somehow managed to tell the firewall to block the AOL process. You can rule this out easily enough by simply turning the firewall off.

Is your main ISP in the house AOL? Or is this just a mate using a laptop to get at a separate AOL account?

If AOL is your ISP, you could try this: In the UK, AOL uses a different MTU for some mad reason. So logon to that router and change the MRU = MTU = 1400. This may help....

You should not need to be forwarding any ports for the AOL software as it's is just a glorified web browser with built in adverts and pop-ups all wrapped around IE. (Hence why The_Mage18/YeOldeStonecat are trying to get you to test with IE on the laptop)

Yes can access IE/Firefox, sorry have this thread on multiple forums. Ok, so tcp/ip? k.

If IE and Firefox display websites fine, then it is the rubbishy AOL software that is bust. A full uninstall / reinstall of AOL9 could be worth trying first. Then we know we are starting from a clean base.

When you setup your connection, you get a choice of an "Automatically Detect Connection" or "Expert Setup". I advise to choose the Expert route. This will then offer you a choice of connection types. Pick "LAN" (It may refer to an office network). Once you have the correct choice, it will ask for a cosmetic name for it, and then there will be no other questions about phone numbers, etc. It should only need the screenname and password then you are in.

Once that side is setup, you need to check with your firewall. There are dozens of stupid little advert supplying utilities that come with AOL. So try disabling the software firewall on the laptop. If this allows everything to work, that means you need to change the settings in the firewall to allow these extra programs. :)

There is probally a list at AOL of all these extra tools of theirs and how to configure your brand of firewall to let them all through. (Don't forget you can access aol.com using IE/Firefox to get at the support pages) :)

If none of that helps, please describe what the error you actually get is and at what stage that occurs. i.e. Have you fully installed the AOL client? Have you started it for the first time? How many networks have been auto-detected by it? Try deleteing all of the modems, etc that it has found?

Yeah if IE/Firefox works on the laptop, it's a problem with the AOL software installed on the laptop. Follow the above steps and you should connect.
