Help with lil sisters win2K networking problem (simple)

what do i need to do to set up the network? she is connected to our router, but is not getting internet access. However, she is able to see the other people in her work group. Is there something in particular I have to set up with 2k? I have never used 2k before and networked it... Its a fresh install, so everything should be clean. Its a slightly older computer (not that it matters) but the NIC is working properly I am assuming because I can see others in her workgroup.

Are the IP addresses assigned via DHCP or is it Static?

at a command prompt type ipconfig /all and ensure that a gateway is set, if not and you set the IP statically then set the default gateway to the router's IP address.

What happens when you open Internet Explorer on her PC?


If it is trying to dial a number for an old dial up account make sure you do this:

In control panel click Internet options then select connections. Make sure "never dial a connection" is checked.

Also make sure in the LAN settings that "automatically detect settings" is selected.
