Help stop EPSON Scan trimming my scans?

I've been fiddling with the EPSON Scan software that I downloaded from epson.com after unboxing a new v500 scanner.

Every document I scan in "Professional Mode" trims off whatever it thinks it wants to trim off even when I uncheck "Trimming".

Is this software really this bad?

Is there a better application I can use to nab 8.5 x 11 scans hassle free?

I haven't even gotten to photo scanning. I'm skeert....

To select your scan area, click the auto locate icon to place a marquee that marks the edges of your image area. You can move the marquee to change the scan area. See Adjusting the Scan Area (Marquee) in the user manual for instructions.
also try setting the document size to the size of document you are trying to scan.

ok, that sent me in the right direction. I'm now able to scan an 8 1/2 x 11 color document without it clipping off margins. Thanks!
