My router recently keeps dropping my connection. I don't think it is my ISP.

When I check my router logs, I keep seeing a "receive an unknown DHCP type(8)"

Anyone know what the hell that means or how I can fix this?

I have a dlink DI-604 router

Networks are not my forte, but I'll just throw this out there. Is there anything else on your network that could be using DHCP?

Try setting your machines IP to a static IP address.

Also, check D-Link's website for the newest firmware.

what OS?
maybe IPV6 if it's Vista/7?

I've been doing some troubleshooting. You might be right that is has something to do with Vista.

I turned off all my machines and used my work laptop all day (xp), and I had no problems. Router logs were clean. But as soon as I turned my desktop on (vista 64), I started seeing some of those error messages. This never happened before, what could've changed? how do i fix this if it is indeed vista that is causing it?

ok just did some more testing, i'm almost positive it is my vista desktop causing these drops.

question is, why now? i've always been using this setup, nothing has really changed. except maybe some vista updates.

more importantly, how do i fix this issue? new router?

verify Vista drivers for wireless are up to date?
no firmware upgrades for the router?
disable/verify IPV6 is disabled on the Vista machine?
