I need a new laptop. I primarily use my laptop for gaming. I will be getting Diablo 3 reaper of souls, Guild wars 2 Heart of Thorns and maybe Dragon Age Inquisition for Christmas.

My old laptop was an Acer 7552G 17.3 inch.

My budget is 450.00.

I am considering one of 2 laptops.
429.00
ASUS Laptop X550ZA-WH11(WX) AMD A10-Series A10-7400P (2.50 GHz) 8 GB Memory
1 TB HDD AMD Radeon R6 Series 15.6" Windows 10 Home 64-Bit

AMD A10-7400P 2.5 GHz
AMD Radeon R6 Graphics

399.00
The second laptop is by HP 17-p120wm

AMD A8-7050 Dual-Core processor
1.80GHz (with a Max Turbo Boost of 3.0GHz), 2MB L2 Cache
AMD Radeon R5

How much faster would the Asus be then the HP. I would prefer a 17.3 laptop but am not opposed to a 15.6 laptop. I am trying to get best bang for buck.

I do not like Intel computer so please don't quote one.

How much faster is the A10 than the A8 also.

Thank you

The Asus would be considerably faster as the processors is an A10 (quad core, compared to the dual core A8 on the HP. Note that the list of processors seems to only list 7050 as a dual core A6 at a different set of speeds, so either that's an OEM only model or there's a typo For comparison - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_AMD_accelerated_processing_unit_microprocessors -). and the R6 series graphics is faster than the R5. However, I would caution you a couple of things..

If you are dead-set on a laptop without an Intel processor then I'll do my best to keep helping, but be aware you are narrowing the field of laptops, especially gaming performance ones, considerably. That said, if you are going to purchase an AMD CPU powered laptop, the only modern ones are those build on AMD APUs. I would highly suggest buying those with the very newest 6th generation APUs Check out the following for more info - http://www.amd.com/en-us/products/processors/notebook-tablet# - especially the comparison matrix. Thus, you'll want one of the models with an 8000 series model number. You can see the comparison on the AMD page of features, or look to the "Carrizo" section of the Wikipedia link I provided earlier.

This will give you the best bang for your buck as well as newest technologies. The FX-8800P is the top of the line model with 4 CPU + 8 GPU cores, while the A10-8700P and A8-8600 are 4CPU + 6 GPU; there are also some other differences between the three models as can be seen the AMD page listed above. Don't forget that it may also benefit you for gaming to find a laptop that has a discrete GPU on top of the one included in the APU; AMD allows them to work together! For instance something with both an FX-8800P and a R9 300-series or similar discrete GPU Of course, all of this is finances permitting. If you're able to be a bit flexible with your funds, you'll likely find something even better.

As far as the size is concerned, I'd think it may not be easy to find a high quality 17" laptop with an AMD APU. AMD APUs are primarily for the low-mid range performance and that typically isn't put in a larger chassis, though there are some exceptions. Likewise, many users today want a much smaller notebook for portability and would normally consider the APU's low power drain (and thus heat) to be an asset in this regard, while still allowing sufficient performance.

Of the two you have listed I'd certainly think the Asus is likely a better quality machine (both in components and perhaps in build quality etc), but I'd advise looking for other laptops with the newest 8000 series AMD APUs. I've not personally researched AMD APU laptops in depth, so I can't point you to some of the best options, but I'd suggest hitting up the NotebookReview.com forums and people may have some suggestions and feedback.

Thanks for your response. I took a look at some of the dedicated card laptops on Newegg. almost all are beyond what I would be willing to spend. I really didn't even consider going over 500. The Asus I listed does say it has the R6 gpu core It seems like one of the faster A10 APU.

Overall I think that model is likely the best you will be able to do on an AMD platform. It has a lot of nicer upgrades including the FX APU and a 1920x1080 display.

I would be remiss however if I didn't say that were you open to non-AMD platforms you would likely get better gaming performance in a similar price bracket. If it is your final decision then I wish you well with it and hope it serves you your satisfaction; be sure you test it out with the most demanding games (consider not just what you want to play now, but in the future) in the first 30 days so you can decide if it is working out for you.
