Hello friends,

I dunno in which subforum to post my question, so please excuse me in this :) I am upgrading after 5 years (current rig in sig), and going to buy 3930k, but need advice which ram and mobo to buy (just these components, since I will be using remaining stuff from the old rig)

My needs: 64gb ram, prefer stability over performance, no overclocking, good passive cooling.

Many thanks so far

Thanks, and what about the mb ? I saw that many/most use Asus P9X79 variants, is there any Gigabyte alternative ?

GA-X79S-UP5 is what I'm using with a 3930k and 64GB of G.Skill. Via doesn't have working Windows 8/2012 usb 3.0 drivers though, if you need them.

I decided to go with Asus P9X79 Pro, but have another question - I want for cooling Noctua NH-D14, so I need low profile heatsinks on rams and all available quad channell 64gb sets (8pcs x 8gb) are tall, so I am considering to get 2x 32gb(4pcs x 8gb) low profile sets, but dunno if there wouldn't be any complications or change cpu cooler. What would you recommend ?

Would the Kingston HyperX stuff fit? I've found it reliable, running 64GB of the stuff myself.

thanks for reply, i think it will, i did in meanwhile some research, going for HyperX Genesis - 64GB Kit* (8x8GB) - DDR3 1600MHz CL9 then

Let me know how it works out for you. The stuff isn't flashy, and isn't dirt cheap, but isn't expensive either, and I can usually tighten the CL one notch tighter than rated even on the Blu kits.
