My girlfriend was window shopping in a computer store where she lives and saw these parts...

http://www.pcclub.com/product_detail.cfm?itemno=A1350916
http://www.casecooler.com/zablnoco.html

And she has this...

http://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/Hardware/Reviews/msi_fx5900u/4.html (don't read the review, I have one also and I love it.)

... and now is bound and determined to have everything in her comp a shade of blue. (It's nowhere NEAR that now! YIPE!!!)

So I'm not sure where to start on this little project. She said put it togethere as cheaply as possible, not sacrificing speed tho. I honestly don't know where to start cause nothing in the stores around here carry premodded stuff. most are generic green cards or the ramdom ATI Red (including motherboards.)

I guess things she'll need are...
Video card (thinking Gigabyte again)
Sound card (Live blaster?)
Nic (no clue)
Cables
Paints (for just the metal stuffs)
Anything else I CAN'T think of... even if it's off the wall or a one-off (points to mouse above)

Could you post links to ANYTHING online that's computer related and blue in nature? I know weird request, but hey, could be worse. I tried to talk her into green but that was a no go. (LOL!!!) Thanks.

Herc makes blue video cards.

The Live is black.

Cables come from frozencpu.com, sidewindercomputers.com, etc...

You can get a case custom done from www.performance-pcs.com with what you need, good pricing, call them / email for a custom jobbie. They're great.

I don't know of ANY blue nics.

According to the following specs from the link you provided, that board has built in LAN, therefore you dont need a NIC.

Features:
Processor: AMD Duron/XP 3200+
Chipset/FSB: VIA KT600, 200/266/333/400 MHz
Memory: 3 x DDR400 up to 3GB
Slots: AGP 8X, 5 x PCI
Ports: 4 x USB 2.0, 1 x Parallel, 2 x Serial
IDE: 2 x UATA/133
Video: None
Audio/LAN: 5.1 , 10/100

Well, blue is a primary color and green is a secondary color.
(If you ever watch star trek the good guys wear primary colors and the bad dudes wear secondary colors.)

Yer girlfriend lives in a computer store? How sad man... tell her she can stay with me for awhile if she needs to.

They also make blue soundcards as well. Like the Fortissimo III 7.1, or Digifire 7.1, GTXP i think is blue too, but i have never owned one. So maybe look into those for sound. You can find blue colored Round IDE/Floppy cables from basically anywhere that sells cables, even UV reactive ones that glow blue, if you have a UV light and want to go a little overboard, same goes with fans.:D

I don't know of any blue NICs either.

Here's a quick & dirty:

Motherboard
This takes care of Sound (Soundstorm is excellent), NIC, & Video (unless she needs more than a GF4MX), and gives firewire as well.

your favorite AMD CPU: (2500+?)

Heatsink

Hyper-X RAM

(blue rounded cables)

black CD-ROMs & floppy (an accent that should go well with the case listed below)

your favorite hdd (WD800BB?)

blue LED fans

Then grab a Logitech Elite corded & an MX310 for peripherals.

Again, this is just a quick look at the egg; I had to build one a while ago that was all blue and this is close to what I went with.

And, as it was mentioned, Tyan makes blue PCB ATI cards...not sure who does blue PCBs on the nvidia side...

my netgear fa310 and fa311 nics are a shade of blue if you get a mobo w/o intergrated lan

+ my gf3 sfx from herc is blue but thats been said already

IMO, dont sacrafice performance for looks. just buy any color part and vinyl dye it ;)

Thanks guys, you've given me some awesome ideas so far (Vinyl Dye??? WTH?)

She wants to stick with her case (figured) but I think I talked her into a 2500+ Barton and an NF2 IGP based Gigabyte board, so she can use the onboard video and my wallet get's replenished for the net salvo...

http://europe.hercules.com/showpage.php?p=71&b=0&f=1#debut

...which will blow my current system out of the water. (look in sig.)

RootofALLEVIL, Thanks for the Nic, I know the board has one built on, but I build all my computers with two nics... force of habit I guess. Appreciated greatly, that was a hard find.

Icee, Lotsa Blue Leds... in molex connecteors... saw the mod, and I wanna do it. :D

IxGOxSOLO & jas0nt, how does the Hercules Fortissimo III 7.1 compare to the Nvidia Soundstorm onboard, or is that just a listening thing we'd have to find out for ourselves?

And cables and fans we can get anywhere. Anyone setalthed a drive? Just occured to me I could do that with the CD-RW she has. Decisions... decisions...

Edit: And she does NOT live in a computer store...

Soundstorm is better than just about everything right now, excepting the Audigy2 and the Pro level cards from Digifire or M-Audio. This assumes digital out though, the DAC is only average.

Geez, I spec out an entire blue system (other than mass storage), and I don't even get mentioned?

WTF.

last time I help anyone on the [H]! :p

I am reasonably sure the M-Audio Revolution is blue. Kingston HyperX ram is also.

Not that I didn't see your post, NecessaryEvil, I was just looking for full size ATX spec stuff. This will not be a SFF system. this is the first MAJOR project I'm doing conceringing modding a comp, and with my luck I could see me borking a SFF board real easy.

That and I have big gorilla hands :( (Made exclusively for the XBOX controller it seems. Think Gabe and Tycho strips from PA.)

And arent the Shuttle's a little slower than all the other NF2 boards? Always seem they're behind the curve, and a little more costly. *shrugs* Maybe I'm reading the wrong reviews.

Egon_dude; how's the MSI K7N2 NForce 2 400 Delta mobo? I am seriousally thinking about it due to the red/orange/gold theme my current system has. What do you mean by 3200ish speeds? Gimme the lowdown on the board mang.

i have a shuttle sff and did use the onboard soundstorm for a while
i had many issues with sound quality and the like so i put a gf3 in (which was fun in a sff, pics: 1 2 3 4) and it does wonderfuly now

i refuse to use onboard sound except on my mini itx via boards :)

Technically, the motherboard in question was an mATX.

and as far as them being slower, I've built about a dozen systems using this board. They're not slow, but I wasn't overclocking with them either. you didn't specify whether or not you would be OCing...

I'm building a system with one right now in an mATX chassis for one of my brother's friends...they're easy to work on...as far as the SFF(I assume you mean their XPC line), those are just as easy to work on as an ATX case...then again, all you do is plug things in and go, there's no actual work involved...

so far the boards been perfect- its bright red :) and has got everything on that i need (ive got the L version without SATA or firewire) but i cant see me ever using them. I say 3200ish speeds as my crucial pc2700 ram will only go up to ddr380- the cpu is running at 2100mhz but it thinks its a xp3200 when it boots and in system. It would run ok at 2200mhz but prime95 crahes after half hour. Ive had the cpu at 2.3 on my mates ram, so i know the board can handle more. But it runs pretty sweet at 2.1 and is perfectly stable. The onboard sound- although its not soundstorm- is much better than my old soundblaster.
Features wise the board ive got is pretty average, but it was one of the cheapest Nforce 2 boards i could find with decent reviews (im on a student budget here- hence the cheap ram as well) and it booted no probs first time. The heatsink ive got is pretty chunky (coolermaster cp5 or summat for xp3200+) and it fits perfectly even though some ppl say the caps are a bit close to the cpu socket.
Performance wise it runs all the stuff i need perfectly (whole system got 3394 3dmark03).
Not really much else to say- seemingly reliable so far (although i know someone whos had one for 7 months with no probs too) full range of fiddly stuff in the bios, and not too expensive.
And supposedly its a little bit shorter than most ATX mobos but its fitted in my case perfectly so i dunno. You get rounded cables, the D-bracket (with 4 diagnostic leds and 2usb ports on), driver cd and manual in the box. It has headers for the S-bracket (if you can find one, its got extra line outs and digital outs for surround sound- i found one at Ebuyer for £4 ), bluetooth and IR, even though its not made clear in the manual.

Ummm, no. lol.

Red, green and blue are all primary additive colors. Cyan, magenta and yellow are all primary subtractive colors.

If you want a blue themed computer, don't forget my treasured Antec TruBlue 480 Watt PSU. Beautiful blue LEDs inside that always impress the chicks and it's a TruePower series, so it's totally reliable.

Also, an IC-7 has a blue LED on it as well as a red, if you are slightly interested in that too.

from an art point of view- and we are talking about aestetics rather than physics or printing here- green is a secondary colour along with orange and purple.
