MY COMPUTER:

MOBO: A7N8X-E Deluxe
CPU: AMD AthlonXP-M 2000 @ 2300GHz
HDD: Seagate ST3320620AS
Maxtor 6 Y160M0 (both SATA drives)
RAM: 2x 256 512MB pc3200 Crucial Value Select
GFX: ATI Radeon 9800pro
PSU: Antec 350? (the one that comes with Antec Sonata case) (broke)
Now I use a 400W no brand i bought for £15

BACKGROUND: (MAY OR MAY NOT BE RELEVANT)
============
My computer was running great until a few months ago when it crashed while I was playing HALO online. The computer turned off but the green light on front of case was still on. When i tried to reset it, nothing would come up on the monitor and the monitors light remained orange (standby). I knew the computer wasn’t booting up because it would have spoke to me as the a7n8x-e does. The fans and LED on the motherboard would turn on though and i could hear the HDD spin up.
Anyway I tried another socket A processor but it didn’t fix it. Then eventually I tried another PSU and that fixed it. My computer was working properly again.

THE PROBLEM:
============
When I tried to play HALO again on my computer I noticed that the originally smooth performance was now terrible. The game seemed to (and continues to ) freeze for a second every few seconds. When this occurs I can hear a click from the HDD and the screen and game freezes for a second. I tried to continue to play under these conditions the computer grinded to a halt and crashed.
When I checked the event log their are multiple event ID 51’s (disk warnings
corresponding to when the game is started and played).

I am also noticing these event 51s occurring even when I am just browsing the web or doing random things (pr0n), when I again experience what seems to be a complete freeze of the system for a second before it continues as normal. Almost like a hiccup.

Below is an example disk warning from my event viewer:

Code:
Event Type:	Warning
Event Source:	Disk
Event Category:	None
Event ID:	51

Harddiosk0 = the Seagate, which is the newer of the two.

Also when i run chkdsk or on the occasions when it runs itself, their are normally a few orphaned files or indexes or something. Chkdsk also mentions recovered Blam.lst files or something. But when I run it a couple of times it doesn’t detect any other errors.

I’ve been reading about these error 51s and i found a large thread: hxxp://www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/topic/12946/
however I cant seem to find a fix for the issue (different things seem to fix it for different people in that thread, for those that get it fixed anyway)

I am also getting event id’s 3001, like below:
Code:
Event Type:	Error
Event Source:	LoadPerf
Event Category:	None
Event ID:	3001
Date:		05/04/2007
Time:		20:35:41

Hoping you guys can help me out with this. I posted on one other forum but didn’t get any replies. Sorry the post is so long but I wanted to give you guys any relevant info. If you need to anything else let me know.

(P.S. it just happened now as i was about to submit this post. the computer froze for a second and i heard the HDD click, i know there's a new event 51 warning in event viewer without even looking)
