Hoping someone can help me with this build. Thank you

1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
World of Warcraft and Diablo 3 and of course web browsing.

2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
Would love to keep it around 800 -1000 max, with or without shipping & tax.

3) Where do you live?
Hartford, CT

4) What exact parts do you need for that budget?
Mother Board
CPU
Video Card
Ram
Hard Drive (Don't think I need much more then 250-300gb if even that)
Power Supply
CD/DVD Reader

5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
Asus 23"
Nine Hundred Case
Keyboard
Mouse

6) Will you be overclocking?
Don't know how to :(

7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have?
I have an Asus 23, but I plan on getting rid of it and buying two 24"s

8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
would like to order parts by next Friday

9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? etc.
To be honest, I am not sure what most of this means, I know I do need USB 3.0.

10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? Is it 32bit or 64bit?
I need to pick up a new OS, been using XP will now. So something that will work best with WOW, and Diablo 3.

The less cables seen, the better!!!

A bit tricky here, on one hand Blizzard games love the CPU and an i5 2500k will provide, makes OCing a snap, and might make you regret getting what is really already last gen. On the other hand you need to wait longer then your planned date.

8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
By mid March at the latest
Can you narrow down that time any further? A lot can change in a single month let alone a month and a half from now.

If March is the best you can do, then please come back in March and ask for advice then.

Go for Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

Go for Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

Well I could build it within the next two weeks, just put down march as the latest. I would love to get this built asap. Just waiting on my Taxes to come in.

$315 - Intel Core i5-750 CPU + Asus P7P55D-E LX Intel P55 ATX Motherboard Combo
$80 - G.Skill Value Series F3-10600CL9D-8GBNT 2 x 4GB DDR3 1333 RAM
$293 - XFX HD-695A-CNFC Radeon HD 6950 2GB PCI-E Video Card
$65 - Samsung Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
$19 - LG GH24NS50 DVD Burner
$136 - XFX Black Edition P1-750B-CAG9 750W Modular PSU
$100 - Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit OEM
----
Total: $1008 shipped.

These are good choices but you can shave some money off going w/ 4 gb's ram, lower wattage psu and the video card is MASSIVE overkill for the games he wants to play. For the specific games a GTX 460 or a 5850 will max them out.

Any other setup recommendations ?

Slightly cheaper setup:
$315 - Intel Core i5-750 CPU + Asus P7P55D-E LX Intel P55 ATX Motherboard Combo
$41 - G.Skill Ripjaw Series F3-10666CL9S-4GBRL 4GB DDR3 1333 RAM
$240 - XFX HD-687A-ZDFC Radeon HD 6870 1GB PCI-E Video Card
$65 - Samsung Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
$19 - LG GH24NS50 DVD Burner
$105 - XFX P1-650X-CAH9 650W Modular PSU
$100 - Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit OEM
----
Total: $885 shipped.

If you need to further cut costs, dropping down to the HD 6850 1GB would be a good idea:
$180 - Gigabyte GV-R685D5-1GD Radeon HD 6850 1GB PCI-E Video Card

I did not go with BlueMonster's recommendations because:
- The Samsung F3 1TB is only $15 more but offers twice the space and slightly higher performance. So totally worth it IMO.
- The CPU + motherboard setup that I recommended is part of a Newegg combo deal that shaves off $15 from the cost of the motherboard and CPU combined. As such, going with the Core i5 760 would actually cost $20 more, rather than $5 more. IMO, the Core i5 760 is not worth the extra $20.

As for the video card recommendations by nimajneb5000, he is right that I went a little overkill with the GPU. However I disagree with his GPU recommendations because:
- The GTX 460 1GB is a bit overpriced compared to the HD 6850 1GB
- The HD 5850 1GB is a bit overpriced compared to the HD 6870 1GB

So after some reading, and looking at a few things here is what I have so far. Please check it out and let me know if what I have planned will work. Will be playing WOW, D3, L4D2, and light use of Photoshop and Premiere.

$89.99 CM Storm Scout - Case
$169.99 CORSAIR HX Series CMPSU-850HX 850W - PSU
$289.99 XFX HD-695A-CNFC Radeon HD 6950 2GB - Video Card
$314.99
Intel Core i5-750 CPU + Asus P7P55D-E LX Intel P55 ATX Motherboard Combo
$109.99 CORSAIR Hydro H70
$79.99 G.SKILL Value Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333
$64.99 Samsung Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
$18.99 LG GH24NS50 DVD Burner
$99.99 Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

Total with shipping: 1241.81

Now this is pretty much the exact setup recommended by "Danny Bui", only thing I changed really was the PSU, and add the H70 cooling system. Reason for that was in case I end up getting a second video card and adding a 3rd Asus VH232H LCD monitor. I would also like to overclock this system if possible. This would be the first system I would overclock and been trying to read up on how to do it.

Please let me know what you think, I will be ordering next Friday at the latest. :D

If you're willing to spend that much on a HSF, go for it. Personally I'd stick to air cooling to save $80:
$30 - Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus HSF for LGA 1366 and LGA 1156

was ready to order tonight, but two problems.

Memory was out of stock is this a good replacement or anything else you would recommend?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145315

Also the CPU is also out of stock, any other mobo-cpu combos to recommend?
would also change for amd setup if need be, just let me know if I have to change any other parts.

Is this CPU and this mobo the same as this combo or what is the difference?

thanks

I'm posting my response here as I don't believe that you needed a new thread for the following:

Not the best at building my own pc, so Ijust wanted to check with you guys and see what you thought about this set up. I mostly play WOW, abd SC2. Very light use of Photoshop.

Please check to see that all my parts are compatible. Thanks

Right now I am going to be using this with 2 Asus VH22H lcd monitors, would like to go with 3 monitors later on in a couple months. IF I do so what do I need to do?

Thanks

If you're that worried about gaming performance, go with the 6950 now instead of the 6850, as WoW (and I believe SC2) don't scale very well with a dual-card solution. For the third monitor, you'll need to buy a Display Port adapter (either for DVI or HDMI). Hell, you may want to save yourself the trouble and buy that adapter now.

Consequentially, you'll need to cut a few price corners elsewhere. Switch out the H70 for the Hyper 212 Plus as recommended earlier; that's $80 saved. And you don't need an 850 watt power supply for the 6950, so go with a cheaper yet still good power supply like the Antec TruePower New TP-750.

any links to a Display Port adapter , googled it but way too many things poped up ... :(

thanks

Jeez, I missed a couple of things from earlier....

9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? etc.
To be honest, I am not sure what most of this means, I know I do need USB 3.0.

Why do you NEED USB 3.0?

The less cables seen, the better!!!

Does that mean you'll be dropping the Antec Nine Hundred soon? It's pretty horrible for case management.

Excuse my ignorance, but which version of the iPhone do you have? I thought that all Apple iProducts used USB 2.0.

iPhone 4, anytime I plug it into my 2.0 ports it will crash while trying to do anything with it. If I plug it to the rear 3.0 it works fine

Something must be wrong with the USB ports on your system, as Apple still uses USB 2.0 for the iPhone 4.

(But I digress, as it's a moot point now.)
