HEC X-power 650 - Good or Bad?

Newegg's shell shocker later today is this psu for 39.00 with free shipping.

I'm just curious if HEC's power supplies are good or bad, or if anyone has any experience with this psu. I'm considering using it to power an older rig with a q6600 and a 5850, and reuse my current 1000watt proXstream on a new Sandybridge build.

That model in particular? Bad. Do not buy. If you need a cheap PSU, there are other better options available.

I agree with you that an HD 5850 should not be run with a cheap, crappy PSU no matter the wattage claim. That particular PSU is IMHO barely a 400W PSU under realistic conditions (internal PSU temps of 45°C/113°F to 50°C/122°F). The "650W" rating had been achieved at an unrealistically low internal operating temperature (inside the PSU itself) of only 25°C (77°F). The only way to achieve that low of an internal PSU temperature would be if the ambient temperature was 0°C/32°F!
