I just recovered a friend's laptop using the built in hardware recovery console. (hp hidden recovery partition)

Now the all the folders inside his documents and settings forlder are inaccessible. At first his entire user folder was completely inacessible but i went into safe mode and shanged the security settings/permissions to allow for administrator and his user name access. Now I can get into the user folder but I cannot get inside the folders inside the folder.

When I try to change the security settings of the folder it gives me some kind of "you will be unable to change the security settings" message.

Please help, I am at my wit's end.

    Thanks.

just used disk investigator and the stuff I am looking for exists. I can find it via the search function of the program but trying to open the folder gives me a weird error message.

    (still need help)
