HBO To Start Selling On The Web Next Year

Used to want A la carte. Actually have had HBOGO and MAXGO from comcast without a tv tier having internet only. Still counts against my data cap, so am still backed in a corner.

Bing bing we have someone with actual learning ability. The medium and the message have become the same company and nobody cares. So please turn on basic cable TV and start changing channels. There's your internet future according to Comcast/Warner/NBC and the Senator From Sony. Oops I mean Orrin Hatch.
 
If they let you stream every episode from the beginning of the game of thrones we will subscribe. I'll even agree to paying a slightly higher price just to show that this is what people want and that cable TV will hopefully be dead soon.

Given the way this model is unfolding then I would expect that both ESPN and NFL will offer standalone packages for a fixed monthly fee as well (and for a lot more than $6/mo)

If you want live sports you will continue to be fucked in the ass for the foreseeable future.

Also, A la carte could make things cheaper. Why? Because people would choose OTA, Netflix, and say HBOGo. I think we are suffering from overload of content. This also allows people to stop being held hostage for the additional fees. The ridiculous HD tech fee and per outlet fees. $99 for a ATV, Roku, etc is really enticing.

Unless, again if you want sports then you have to bend over and let them come in dry.
 
Also, until you decouple the content providers with the Cable/ISP things won't change.

You need companies who need to offer the best value with internet speeds (also there would be no incentive to throttle a particular service) and then make the content providers compete on price.
 
I'd get HBO just for Bill Maher and John Olivers Sunday show..those shows and the daily show is where my generation gets its news from.

They would probably have blacked out the local team's games anyways. I know that mlb.com and nhl.com does that and I find it extremely frustrating.

Big fan of Last Week Tonight's YouTube page, where the central investigation piece is always available. (get those Geckos!) I'm curious as to the show in its entirety plays.
 
Woah, I'm surprised Time Warner is going to let this happen before Comcast buys them.

Some people expect that because half the cost of HBO goes to the cable companies, and not to HBO.

Although I don't expect them to offer it cheaper than the cable companies can, since undercutting the cable companies could cause cable companies to drop HBO in retaliation.

Financially, I think the NFL is the only reason CBS isn't on the same auction block as NBC, Time-Warner and the rest of last century's dinosaurs.
