Hi there, Peeps! I was just wondering... recently on some new Asus and Asrock boards, I've seen the VIA VT1708S audio codec is implemented. It's been a long time since I've seen VIA audio onboard, and was wondering what is the word on it; Any good?

The specs look very similar to the Envy HT/S series, just a continuation. The SNR looks slightly lower, but as an integrated chip it should do very well. Via's driver support and website are a helluva lot better than Realtek, so it might be worth it when going for a new board.

Yeah, I was thinking Envy when I first heard of Asus using that codec. Though, Realtek is pretty good about keeping drivers updated for a variety of platforms. Has anyone actually owned/used a board with this codec?
