Has anyone seen a MacBook battery melt like this?

The small shiny circle, whose purpose I can't figure out or google, has melted to the case. Anyone know what happened here? Oh! Also, the battery reports that it's fully charged using the button on the side of the case.

No, but I did have one Mac where the battery expanded so violently it popped the trackpad clear out the top. The entire metal casing of the laptop bubbled. It was amazing.

I've never noticed mine get hot like that but that small, shiny circle is simply the foot or bumper that keeps the entire macbook off the surface it's resting on so the bottom doesn't scratch.

It's a foot for traction. Depending on what it is made out of it can get gooey and melt over time, or it can get melty in the presence of certain chemical compounds.

Have you had it near any major sources of volatile organic compounds? EPoxy, lots of silicone caulk, things like that?
