Hard Drive Shipments Have Completely Recovered From The Flood

To all who thought the pricing would return to pre-flood levels, not 'gonna happen.

With fewer competitors than in 2010-2011, that is not surprising. And with healthy growth, no manufacturer has any real incentive to cut pricing just to maintain shipment volumes.

The forecast in that isuppli article is pretty bogus, though. How good is a forecast that excludes categories like automotive or DVRs?

Supply is only half of the pricing equation. Demand is the other half.

Until there is not enough demand at the current price there is no reason for prices to drop.

Well, the number for 2011 was impacted by the floods, so 4% more for 2012 is not that significant, I think it means that supply is still tight compared to demand. Now, it's entirely possible that the OEMs do this on purpose to keep better margins. Why build additional plants if it will make you lose money ?
