i dont mean to be rude, but are you stupid? halo came out in 2001, bf1942 in 2002. and ut2k3 in... 2003. im really baffled at this reddit-tier whine for a source on something so painfully obvious as the passage of time.
And Starsiege Tribes came out in 1998. Tribes 2 in 2001, half a year before Halo.

Step back for a minute and take a good hard look at what you're all arguing about.

Holy crap.

I know right? It's ridiculously to say that battery life alone makes emulation better. There are a load of various features to compare other than battery life. If that's the sole metric to go by then the DSi-XL trumps any handheld I've ever heard of. And I've done a ton of research into whats out there lol.

the rage comes from the OG pc master race that refuse to acknowledge that Halo is an amazing series just because it has been a console game. thats all that is going on here. you know, the type that actually thinks multiplayer gaming peaked with facing worlds on UT. i mean i hate anything new as much as the next caveman, but come on fellas everyone else in the world knows this is the best gaming news in awhile.

Qft

No I am not. Yes, BF1942 came out well before UT2k3, but it was a dominate MP game of the time. Just read articles when UT2k3 was released.

http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/unreal-tournament-2004/499120p1.html

You'll see. UT2k3 was competing with BF1942, Tribes and other games.

Also, Mr. Time Cop, Halo was an Xbox exclusive game until around 2003. It was not a competition for UT being on a console. Sure it was released in 2003 right around the same time UT2k3 was launched, but it didn't have anywhere near the player count as BF1942 and other PC games during that time.

Either way, I read a few other articles on UT2k4 and some of them do mention Halo being an influence on Epic's decision to go with vehicles in the game. Though, it seems the vehicles themselves are influenced on Halo's vehicles and not really adding vehicles to the game.

i am sorry, i think my crazy grandma we keep in the attic escaped because it got past 100 degrees up there yesterday and used my account to call you stupid, you have a whole lot more research behind your thoughts than i did.

The last line makes me hurt, and truth always hurts.

Baked it good, I see. I think I agree with you here, maybe.

Here's the thing, I love me some Facing Worlds CTF, but I also love me some one-bomb on Zanzabar and CTF on BloodGulch.

Halo's Custom game modes can be configured to the point where the game is unrecognizable as Halo. So if you don't like the slow(ish) movement, you can boost it up to 1000%. If you don't like the TTK, you can increase or decrease shields from 1000% more to 0%.

You can do the same thing with UT. :p

Quake 3 Arena, Unreal Tournament, BF1942, COD (1 and 2), and even Halo were all some good lan party games.

I know when I would run a quake3 server, you could easily do some fun things like set gravity to about 1/5th of normal. on the space map (dm17) that was some fun.. hit the bounce pad and you flew off, mostly uncontrollably :) It could be particularly fun when you played for 5 minutes with everything normal, then toggled the gravity to low mid game. "WTF??" mixed with "LOL!" and various things yelled out. Good times :)

This is why I am glad the Halo games are coming to pc. Hopefully all with dedicated servers. They mentioned offline play so dedicated servers, or someone's game acting as the server, means good old lan party fun :)

I think my primary complaint about Quake Champions is that its 4v4 matches (or smaller). I want the capability to do 10v10 matches. shit gets crazy, especially on small maps. Also no offline play (I don't think). Lots of games these days it seems, no offline lan capability, no dedicated servers...

343 has done a good number of major updates to MCC over the last year, pretty much fixing all the major issues as well as adding a few quality of life features to it. With the way they're handling this release you should be able to tell on a game-by-game basis how good the port job is.

For sure. They even released the fancy Xbox One X version of Halo 3 to regular Xbox One owners eventually (no 4K of course). The texture changes are quite impressive and the audio issues I had are now all gone. How many studios are doing that on good will these days?

Dug these old pics up from circa 2003~ on my archive drive, I was excited years ago! To the point of modding 1942. Will be sad with no cross-play however.

I'm considering picking up the entire MCC via Steam, but i have to wonder... will the release of later games to the collection mean that people will stop playing those released earlier? Will it be harder to get things unlocked on "earlier" ones somehow etc?

This game has my interest. Would people who never really played it before like it?

The original game feels quite dated at this point. The story is good, but I feel the game was a slog to get through even when it was brand new. To be fair, most of the Halo games drag on with seemingly no end to them.

My buddy drives 3 hours every Christmas to visit every year and part of that tradition is playing through most of the Halo games campaign co-op. It never stops being fun. My daughter never played them back in the day and has a blast too.

And a lot of repeating bridges and rooms that was very apparent back then. Did they change the copy/paste level design in this version? Doubting it. Still was a fun game although not perfect.

I didn't bother with any console from the Xbox generation onward. So, I didn't play Halo in its day. But I liked the first 10 seasons of Red vs Blue. So, it's cool to get to play Blood Gulch online in the Steam release. It's like when seeing some famous place in a movie and then visiting it in real life. Except this is touring a place in a video that is actually just in some video game. Still, sorta the same.

In the SP campaign, I think the Anniversary graphics ruin the tone the original graphics created in many places, mostly outdoors but also at times in the alien ships The Anniversary graphics are a lot more generic and less surreal.

The amount of backtracking in CE is infuriating.

Well, it was originally designed for the toilet seat Mac iBook era. Lots of concessions to conserve computing resources I would imagine. Bu you couldn't play campaign co-op back then on seperate Xbox consoles and screens. Now you can LAN party PCs campaign CO-OP because the of the Xbone MCC providing that as an option. I think doing that is some of the most fun I have ever had gaming, especially for Halo 2, 3 and Reach.

It's been out for awhile now, I think I got this on Steam in December. Played some Halo Reach (whichever is chronologically first, the prequel to Halo game) and it's been fun. Haven't finished that yet but I want to play thru the whole series.

Prior to now I have only played Halo 1 and Halo 2 (on pc). Playing them all with keybd/mouse is what I have been waiting for.

Seems like back in 2008 ish Microsoft had planned they would all come to pc. Then the whole vista/win7 crap just to get newer DirectX, and then all they released for pc was Halo 2 (late), until now that is. So long overdue imho, but glad it is here.

I still keep original Halo PC port installed, and ever since Anniversary came out on X360, I been saying that the old graphics in Anniversary look worse than the graphics in the original version of Halo. Supposed to be the same assets, but I dunno, shit looks kinda off in Anniversary. Looks worse somehow. As for the new remastered graphics, yeah they don't have the same charm as the original graphics but they can be quite interesting on their own. Really changes up the mood and atmosphere, the feel of some of the areas. Interesting to be able to switch between the old and new graphics instantly. I find that the new assets for geometry like boulders don't always line up with the collision boxes of the old geometry. Sometimes it looks like I have a clear shot, but when I switch back to the old graphics I see that my shot is actually being blocked by geometry.

They actually released MCC for PC back then yes, but stated that games would be ported to PC over time, starting with Reach and probably in chronological order.

So CE was just released, and if you purchased the MCC pack you should have it in your library!

I'm going to wait for a sale on MCC, as I've purchased half the series originally, then MCC and yet still have only ever finished CE.
I'm looking forward to finally experiencing the rest of the story!

Ja, Halo 2 is supposedly coming out in just a few months. Sometime this summer, I assume.

If they really want to get the entire collection out by the time Infinite launches late this year (barring delays) then it'll have to be sooner than summer.

I don't think that is possible. Halo 1 & 2 I imagine are easier since they already had a PC version. After 2 they still have 4 more games to get out: 3, ODST, 4 and 5. If they do get them out they will probably be in a beta-like state.

3, ODST, and 4. 5 isn't part of MCC and 343 have said they currently don't have plans to port it. They have two studios working on multiple games at a time. They were doing Reach and CEA at the same time. When Reach was done that studio went on to work on 2. Now that CEA is out that studio will go on to working on 3.

I am wondering about 5. It is going to be 5 years old by October, and seems odd that they would do 4 and stop there. I suppose they will eventually port it, but it may take a while (2021). Or they may just do 4 to get people started on the new trio logy and use 5 and 6 as an incentive to buy an Xbox.

I wouldn't be surprised if they have both studios that are currently working on MCC do work on 5 once all the work on MCC is done.

6/Infinite will launch on the PC the same time as it does on consoles.

Way harder than Reach.
I usually only play on Legendary in co-op. I stick to Heroic on PC when I'm by myself (Normal on consoles). I beat Reach on PC on Legendary by myself no problem, but Halo 1 Anniversary I had to give up on the 3rd level. THIS is the Legendary I remember. I was thinking Reach on Legendary was too easy. The old PC port of Halo 1 I beat a few different levels on Legendary (can't believe I did the fucking Library on that difficulty), but the whole game no fucking way.

And I don't think anyone will give a shit if it never comes to PC either. XB1 can keep that shit.

I was planning to do the same and wait for a sale, but a friend hooked me up for Christmas. The only Halo games I own prior to MCC was original Gearbox port of Halo 1, Halo ODST, and Halo Reach (I bought the special collector's edition cuz it was Bungie's last Halo game). A friend also sold me the X360 version of Halo 1 Anniversary for $10 some years ago (barely touched the the XB1 MCC version). All the other Halo games on console I have either borrowed or played with friends at their houses. Been through 'em all a few times (some many times) over the years, both the original versions and with XB1 MCC. I've been through Reach a ton of times on X360 both solo and co-op, but playing it on PC with mouse and keyboard was like I finally, TRULY played it for the first time. I said the same thing about Halo 2 using Project Cartographer (I did play the original PC port Halo 2 Vista back when it came out, but oh gawd please don't remind me about that shit). Looking forward to finally fucking playing Halo 3 and ODST with mouse and keyboard. Reach and ODST are the two games I've wanted to play with mouse and keyboard the most.

I have to turn off my brain to play Halo 5. Shooting mechanics get close to Destiny quality. But everything about the story makes my blood boil.
