Half Life 3 in the works?

If you bought a 9800XT, you got HL2 included with it. Maybe if you buy an RX 9700XT, you'll get HL3 included with it. :p

Though I don't think we'll see another game for a long time, if ever. I've largely outgrown Valve style games anyways. An FPS that does not have aiming/sights is quite lame these days.
Just give me a crosshair and make the bullets go there. That's all I want. Frankly, I'm sick of needing to ADS in FPS games, especially when developers insist on reducing the FOV by half and blurring the screen for iron sights.

i'm glad I am not alone in this.

Overrated? Maybe. Something about it was very ...bland? like it just felt like WW2 with headcrabs. whereas the original was really Sci-Fi and industrial, HL2 was war-torn Europe...

I didn't really enjoy it as much as others, but I still beat it AND the Episodes. However I think GMod was the best thing that came from it 😂

I played through it once when it first came out. I was pretty disappoint back then. I've tried countless times since to play it again and just cant.

you have to look at in terms of the time it was released and not now- 20+ years later...which is why it seems to be so important to Gabe to push the technology forward in a meaningful way before HL3 is released

I was thinking this exact same thing. It was one of the best games in 2004, and it was rated exactly as how it should have. It had a lot going for it at the time with things like the grav gun, large maps, decent story which can make you feel involved with characters, etc. Being processed in the city in the beginning really made you feel like you were part of the system. What is expected today is what makes HL2 feel overrated when it's not. Even though gaming has greatly reduced in my life, I'd seriously jump on HL3 to hopefully finish up the story.

Far Cry, Escape From Butcher Bay, and Doom 3 released the same year months before HL2. Really the only thing HL2 pushed forward was facial animation. Gabe is too far up his own ass. I never played Half-Life for the tech. I played them because they were well and tightly designed experiences with good explicit and environmental storytelling. Which is all I want from Episode 3 or a third entry. It doesn't have to "push the industry forward.". They made and released Alyx believing it would be the AAA game to push VR forward, and how well did that help the VR market? Meta still dominates with shovelware.

Apparently HL3 has a rounded ending to the story, i.e. it would mean the end of the series and Gordon Freeman, that's fine with me. Gordon probably dies or something similar. First, there's the obvious departure to the north and the mystery of the borealis, that's how HL2 ends and then everything else is unknown.
I hope that the game will be PC only, quality gameplay with good music is safe in my opinion.

I will say physics were also quite good. It had a lot of nice things in it. HL3 doesn't need to reinvent the wheel though I would like to see some aspect that does standout. I also agree that HL Alyx was a nice attempt to push something new, so HL3 doesn't need to be anything drastically different. Maybe some smarter AI, high levels of micro destruction with more interactive physics. Hopefully they are doing something though. HLA is already over 5 years old.
