Im looking for video driver that will allow me to go to a higher resolution than the stock 1024x768. Anyone have any tips? Ive googled and checked a few places but no luck so far.

not exactly what I was looking for, id like to up my resolution, not extend it.

Ive had lcd monitors that say they have a max res of 1024x768 and theyve gone higher than that, not much but they have.

Somehow I find that hard to believe. Unlike CRTs, LCDs have a set number of pixels. Going above (or below) this set resolution doesn't really serve a purpose and really just make things worse.

w00t! Me and Black Morty Rackham agree on something... lets have a ticker tape parade in NYC =)

Kaos, Im betting that the LCD you are refering to was set at a resolution that was lower than the "prefered" (read: maximum) resolution. Kick us some web links or Im callin BS...

I worked in a best buy and circuit city for more than 3 years combined and have seen advertised resolutions mean jack shit. more exactly on samsung monitors and there was a 19" Gateway Flat panel that did as well.

a sony rb30 would pump 1024x768 on a 17" monitor (max res 1024x768) and we upgraded the vid card for a customer and it made it go a little higher 1200 x something or other.

In a 3 month period we would get roughly 3 or 4 new monitors with a base of about 20 monitors to start with at either store.

certain Emachine laptops would do this as well.

Sorry, the iBook won't go higher than 1024x768, there are physically 1024 pixels active vertically and 768 pixels active horizontally. There's no way to automagically make extra pixels suddenly grow in between others to give you a higher resolution on an LCD.
If some other monitor had bogus tech specs, that may be the case, but all the Apple products display the max that they can with the built in OS software.

those machines were probably running at lower resolution for some reason (perhaps because 1024x768 is standard for customers who don't know anything about computers). An LCD can only go up to its max resolution and your ibooks max is 1024, sorry.

you can always go in to quartz debug and turn on resolution UI scaling, though it won't be that pretty since it's not all implemented yet.

perhaps he's playing mind games with himself and projecting the image of someone who always disagrees with him on to you

Physically impossible for an LCD to display more pixels than it has. If the pixels are not physically there, it just don't work. Sorry.

Im going to have to say that last post is a bit harsh.

Could it be that the box says max res is one thing and it will actually do another? We always went by the little "fact tag" that was displayed with the units, could be that they were wrong, if so I digress and apologize. But it's no need to insult my intelligence.

Which is what the computer industry is all about. "I know more than person x and you cant tell me differently"

What exactly do you do for a living? That job was great for college all I did was repair computers and I learned alot...didnt appreciate the "Geek Squad" things but all in all it was fun. And you would be quite surprised at the knowledge that some of those guys have. Two guys i worked with did IT for large companies as a FT job and BB as part time.

I do networking and telecom for large companies now and I still consider taking that job as a throwback (read: for the discount) There is no need to insult someone or their livelyhoods just because you want to be the superior IT guy. I always thought it was great when punk kids came in and started talking shit because we were techs for BB and it was like....didnt I see you on my lunchbreak while you were working at mcdonalds. Which is bad on both of our parts.

check the first line of my sig, thats what the technology industry should be about.
