If that's the purpose, though, then how do you explain the new tiering structure? None of the cards on the list right now are 'coming soon' (unless you count OOS). So if I buy a 3060 I can step up to a 3080 Ti. How is that drastically different than buying a 1030 and doing the same thing? The process is 100% the same. And the end price for the buyer (and EVGA) is full MSRP either way.
I would probably explain the new tiered system as a way to ease a transition for those who did buy those particular cards, and I fully expect them to completely cut off the 10 series all together, and possibly the 16 and 20 series as well when the 40 series comes out.

The 3060 is difference because you can find a 3060 about as often as you can find a 3080 TI, where as 1030s are not that hard to come by comparison (at least until people figured out you could step up 4+ year old cards if you bought them today). EVGA may get the full MSRP, they may not, depends where you bought it from if you bought it from EVGA then yeah shame on them for selling old stuff like that, if you bought it from an affiliate partner that bought them in bulk from EVGA for $50 each a few years back (remember $80 MSRP on these!) but said partner is charging $200, well that's $150 EVGA is losing out on with the deal (and just shooting out numbers here for the sake of doing it).

Bottom line they really just don't want people to buy really stock that has been collecting dust on a warehouse shelf for years as a fast track to get something that is very much in demand and incredibly hard to come by. Plus it would allow all those eligible for 30 series upgrades to be processed much more quickly. The fact these cards are so hard to come by has never been an issue in the past (except for brief moments in time at worst), so largely they would never had to even consider someone buying an archaic card as a gateway to get into the program for a modern card, because in the past you'd buy a 1060 and be like "damn this isn't as fast as I need... lemme step up to a 2060" no one bought a 760 to upgrade to a 2060 just because they couldn't get a hold of any other card.

Ok, now that my 1030 dream is dashed. How would I go about getting a 3080Ti for around $1500? Is that possible?

I can’t imagine there were ever too many legitimate cases of people buying the lowest end card from 2 generations ago and then realizing how big of a mistake it was to step it up to the highest end of things. I’m really surprised it took them this long to close that loophole.

That's a point of reference statement if I ever heard one. They are the less thieving of the thieves. I suppose one could go with that.

It’s not entirely the fault of the AIBs. The US tariffs contributed greatly to them raising their MSRPs well above AMD and Nvidia’s MSRPs.

Wasn't that like $700 or something crazy? Newegg Shuffle cards have been sucking since early December, at least the 3060-3070 range that I look at.
Yeah. It was $699. I picked it up for a family member to upgrade is Vega 56.

Newegg Shuffle. Get another EVGA card if you are lucky to win, then Step Up. The MSRP of the 3080 ti FTW that you could have stepped up to is already $1430. You are basically asking to pay MSRP, which is nigh impossible nowadays.

Or join some Discord and beat the bots on Best Buy drops.

antonline has EVGA bundles. Granted you're getting things that you potentially do not want or need, but you could score the card you actually want, or one that works for the Step-Up. I did see that antonline is an authorized reseller of EVGA.

I bought my 3080ti($2100.00) from them and it was bundled with a 5800X, 750w PSU and EVGA keyboard and mouse. I was able to sell off everything else. CPU and PSU I was able to get close to MSRP, mouse and keyboard, not even close. So I ended up paying around $1500 for the XC3.

Thanx!

Where did you sell the Extra stuff? Since Ebay expelled PP, I haven't sold anything there. Did you sell them here?

I'm still using Ebay to sell stuff, haven't noticed any change without PP except I no longer pay 3% to Paypal which is nice.

You pay that to Ebay. They cut out the middle man to Jack all the fees.

I would try to sell here I think. If it comes to that

Yeah, but I think the total is a little less, seemed like before you'd pay like 11% on the sale and 3% to Paypal, now it's 12.5% total, but I could be wrong.

Ebay is easy and sellers pay more than they do on hardware forums. My 2060 sold in like 25 minutes for $490 + shipping, I probably could have asked for me but didn't want to be greedy.

Last I looked Ebay was about 13%, but I'm pretty sure it can vary based on the type of item that is being sold. I still use it sometimes, typically you can sell your stuff quickly since it is reaching a wider audience, so it's cool for selling small or obscure things. I used to buy and sell expensive music equipment on there but I'm weary to really do it anymore because the fees and risk of scams and general headaches just make it not super appealing for anything over ~$100.

Not sure about eBay, but I think PayPal reports all transactions paid via goods and services over $600 to the irs.

For anyone buying Newegg Shuffle cards (or anything else from the site) try this code:
2022EGGIEUPS

It's only valid for "select" accounts but gives 10% off anything with no limit. It also lasts the entire year. I assume you can only use it once.
To test your eligibility, just add something random to your cart and apply it.

Not just payment processors, individuals.

Yeah PayPal is the processor in that example and is required to report accounts (which includes individuals) that have over $600 in transactions in a year. But it’s not just PayPal that has that requirement to report.

Mostly friends that needed stuff. I tried to sell the CPU on here, but everyone is looking for a killer deal(which I totally understand). Held onto it long enough that a buddy had a buddy who wanted to build a machine. Sold him the CPU and the PSU. Keyboard and mouse went to a buddy building a machine for his son, so all the blinky blinky lights are a good thing.

wvga can't even get through their notify program either..I've been on the 3080 list (including the move to the LHRs) coming up on 14 months and still have never gotten one.

Is anybody getting 3080s? I thought NVIDIA had switched over to 3080Ti cards to lay the pipe to us. Basically a gouge card

I don't see anything "speeding" on that list... It's pretty sad really.
If you looked back for several pages, you will see that the 3080 FTW 3 Ultra line is moving quite a bit in the last 2 months. If I remember correctly, it moved 2 or 3 months of the queue time.

not for me...one of mine is FTW 3 Ultra, been close to a year.
Made sure you are only in 2 queues and both queues are for LHR cards and not dead queues. EVGA changed its policy to limit 2 queues per member.

The correlation to lower Crypto prices should reflect in lower graphics card prices in the coming months.... something something the 4 year crypto cycle.. last cycle many miners threw in the towel and liquidated GPUs as prices dropped and difficulty increased... history tends to repeat.. Sometime this year, I expect new video cards will at MSRP... there are many factors at play...

They clearly shifted production to the 3090 and then the 3080Ti when that launched last year. You can still get some 3080s from BB and system integrators but AIBs clearly prefer to buy and sell 3080ti and 3090 which they then sell for over $2k. AIBs (other than EVGA which is still somewhat reasonable at $1450 or so) selling 3080Ti for $2100 is straight criminal. During the BB drops both online and in-store, the last cards to go are the 3080Ti and 3090 because they have the worst scalping margins and they’re just expensive. The kiddies in front of the line can’t bankroll that kind of expense I guess, I got one pretty easily in-person.

There’s also definitely something to be said about the country of origin and Tariffs. My first 3090 FE was made in China, my second was made in Taiwan. While I’m sure it cost Nvidia more to assemble in Taiwan, they still probably end up saving by not having to eat the tariff while keeping their FEs at MSRP.

I bought the GT 1030 that was posted here a few pages back to do the step up with EVGA. They didn't like that and cancelled all the step ups for the 1030 people. I called them about it and Customer Service insinuated I was doing something bad by trying to step up to a $1450 card. Still scratching my head on that one. We have a heated Troll infested forum thread going at EVGA over this. All the modz are basically calling us pseudo criminals for trying to buy a freakin' gouge card through the step up program.

I really don't want a 3080Ti. I want a 3080 at some kind of reasonable price.

How do I go about doing that?

I just haven't seen one anywhere. Microcenter is about 650 miles away. I do have a BestBuy close but have no idea how that works and if they even get 3080s in anymore.

I'd say at this point if you want to do something constructive you should be writing letters to your congressman and senators about banning crypto.

The crypto people are the ones who have destroyed your ability to just buy a video card at a store. Until people can't buy these videos cards to essentially turn them into money printing machines that also destroy the environment you'll be facing the levels of bullshit you currently are.

Is it just crypto people? Consoles are fucked, too.
I will say Nvidia made a huge mistake not going for a full 100% LHR nerf last summer. They could've kneecapped the entire issue but they chose to go with 50%, which has been largely circumvented since then.

Or maybe that was Nvidia's goal the entire time...

Good or bad, even with all the outright scam / pump and dump Meme coins and insane valuations for jpeg NFTs... Crypto creates economic activity... Even Pelosi has large holdings in Nvidia. Intel is now finally getting into the ring for making video cards.

If you hate Crypto now, you are really not going to like FedCoin. Many Cryptos will die off, but some will remain. HW makers are enjoying nice margins due to the scarcity and all the parasites in between..

Things will change in 2022 as there will be more supply of video cards coming. Markets always eventually correct, and manufacturers find new ways to fill demand.

It doesn't create any legal economic activity at all, and that's the biggest problem, it's just a way for some people to claim a small stake in criminal enterprise at arm's length, as criminal dealings are the only killer application for crypto. Everything else (nft and such) is just trading around inside the fence, crypto only has value when you can get someone to give you money or goods for it, and pretty much the only enterprise getting real money in exchange for it is criminal enterprise.

Don't mistake the bizarre speculative market around crypto for actual economic activity, nothing is being produced there except speculation on how much people will need to pay to criminals via various crypto chit.

Without crypto the video cards would still be sold, but they're be sold at normal demand prices to gamers.

As for consoles, they're still in demand, and probably will continue to be for a while, but it's a different problem. I can still go out and buy the less in demand models for normal price. The video card problems extend to models that are several years old right now, not just the new hot stuff.

Although there is criminal activity being performed on Crypto, not all is criminal activity .. As far as criminal activity, it goes on everyday in the USD markets such as insider trading by CONgress and Federal Reserve Board members, greased numbers produced by the .gov (like labor stats, jab efficacy, etc.) , insider deals go down every day that fly under the radar on Wall Street.. people pay for hookers and narcotics via USD too.. As far as EXCESS speculation in ALL MARKETS THESE DAYS, you can thank a decade of loose monetary policy for that. Do not be myopic...

Sure, many can get bitter they can not buy a Video card with their hard earned wages while a high school kid buys himself a Lambo via Crypto speculation.. Unfair? Maybe... but if laws were not broken for the kid to get the Lambo, then please don't get butthurt some have chosen to legally exploit opportunity via loopholes while you complain about being exploited on your 9-5 and can't afford a video card. Wall Street runs on exploitation of loopholes and your 401K (if you have one) has benefitted.

Buying Lambos, video cards, miners, etc. DOES create economic activity, and politicians really do care about GDP numbers, so a blind eye has been maintained. With all speculation, some people win, others loose. FOMO is the American way. All markets eventually correct, and the hubris / excess is purged, while manufacturers see market opportunities.. Cheaper video cards are coming.
