Well, just as I submitted my order it dawned on me that this is almost certainly a $10 depost against the full price. That's what BestBuy usually means when they "pre-sell" something. When it ships they'll bill you for the rest. Wish I had remembered that before I pulled the trigger, but I guess I can always cancel. I never like BF1942 and even though BF2 is being reported as being much better, I'm not in a hurry to pay full price for it before I've had a chance to check it out and get feedback.

They don't make it obvious at all, though, from the webpage. WorstBuy, indeed...

I don't think it is for the game. More of a place holder sort of deal.

Why would Best Buy sell you a place holder for a preorder? It doesn't say anything about that.. Can anyone tell anything by the jargon on there? I could'nt find anything. If so that sucks.... sorry.

Because that's how BestBuy sells pre-orders. It's just a deposit. EB does the same.

I wish they would make it more obvious.. they don't even list what the full price would be if you ordered it. How can I close this thread?

That's BestBuy -- or WorstBuy -- for you. I looked all over and even searched their terms and "research center" for details on pre-orders and deposits, and there are none. They make it obvious in-store when you pre-order that you're paying the deposit, but online they do not. I'm tempted to leave my order as-is and raise hell when they try to charge me, because they DO NOT make it obvious.

Yea this is one of those stupid place holder deals they do. I went in-store the other day to see about picking up a copy of Stronghold 2 and they had it pre-order for $10. I thought it was a $10 instant rebate at first but then i saw it was just an empty box lol.

usually best buy does make it obvious, this jsut looks like a misprint. look at these other pre-orders...

best buy usually only does the placeholders in-store. like most places you just have to put downt he minimum amount ot hold the game. you have to pay the balance on pickup.

now I am totally confused. the girl said that it is a full order!! I tried to explain to her that they have the same CDRom version online for $49.99 and she tells me that one is going to be released in June so it's a different version! LOL. She thought that the Preorder / Release versions were different due to the different release dates!

Don't do it. I am so sorry for posting this. I wish it was clear.. It was easy to cancel .. I will just get the DVD version from a B&M when it comes out. I tried to explain to her that it was different and the only versions are going to be the DVD and CD versions... and that they need to update the page... she was pretty clueless.. but really nice.

I found the deal on xpbargains.com .. I bet there are going to be a lot of people cancelling once they find out.

I see what you're talking about the two versions of the CD-ROM on there.. one full ($49.99) and one "Presell" ($10.00), plus the Presell one it says that it ships May 17th? I'll forget about it. Thanks for calling & Thanks anyway!

That presell is just the headset. If you order the game AND the headset, they give the headset free. It isnt a deposit, but they do not explain this unless you read the page with the 49.99 game.

Read the description for crying out loud.

Tonight or tomorrow morning, Best Buy will send each of you an email telling you that due to a pricing error, and per their Terms of Service, your order has been cancelled. You can re-order the item online at (link to $50 item) or at your local BestBuy store (click here to find the store nearest you.)

Best Buy will NOT honor 10,000 orders for a $50 game at $10 per unit. BANK ON IT.

The thing that confuses me is how many times so many of us have been through this same situation, and continue to believe Best Buy will not screw them over, despite it being Best Buy's error. Maybe in a few days, following "public response," they'll send all of the people whose orders they cancelled a 15% off coupon. But don't hold your breath.

Actually, I seriously doubt they will do that. If enough people complain, they MIGHT simply send people an email that states that the offer was just for a "pre-order"...basically a $10 deposit on the game and they ship you the headphones now. Your copy of the game is guaranteed (generally) and you just pay the remainder when the game comes out. Every B&M game/electronic store I've been to works like this when it comes to pre-orders. You are right in that they will most certainly NOT give people the game for $10. Also, the product title for this particular item is "Battelfield 2 (Presell)" which differentiates it from the other two Battlefield pre-orders.

Read the previous thread posts for crying out loud.

Of course we know it's a pre-order -- the game isn't out yet -- and it has pre-order and pre-sell printed everywhere. The question is not whether this is a pre-order, it's about whether this is full price or a deposit.

The deal about the headset is that it is supposed to be free with pre-orders. Nowhere does it mention though that the $10 is a deposit, nor the full price and how they go about billing you for it.

I have messaged them for clarification, with instructions to cancel my order if it is in fact a deposit price as I suspect it is.

this is a demo
the game won't be out till late june at the earliest

but you get a set of headphones for $10
and a demo disk

It is part of a combo offer. See here (and above):

Combo Offer

It becomes free when you add it to the CD or the DVD version of the game.

Yep.. this is definitely not the full game.

I bought Guild Wars this way. You buy the PreSell box for $10 and get a nifty trinket in it. When the game comes out, you bring your receipt in and get $10 off the game.

As someone said above, they have only do this instore in the past. This must be the first time they are attempting to sell it online and are confusing the customers.

Oh, and on the presell games. Do NOT lose your receipt or else your are SOL at getting the $10 off.

especially when the pre-sell reciepts don't register anymore because the SKU or packaging changes... I've had that happen and they just give you a dumb look.

We know it's a freakin pre-order.. thanks for stating the obvious.

Did you even read the subject? it has "Preorder" in description.

I really wish they'd dip in the threads before linking them from the front page. This isn't the first time they've put bad/misleading "Hot Deals" on the front page.

This is a pre-order (hold my copy) purchase, and while you do get a nice nifty trinket inside, and usually the pre-order price going toward the purchase of the full thing I would purchase this except for the fact that the last time I bought a pre-order from Best Buy I was not able to get the game I paid for on the day they were supposed to have it in the store. So the truck was late, I can wait one more day, but then when I go the next day to get the game they still had not broken down the shipment from the night before. They moved slower than a snail towards getting the game on the counter so I could purchase it. Even after talking with the management I couldn't get them to get the game off the shipment and onto the shelf so I could purchase it. Finally after having enough of this Bu11sh1t I called up CompUSA who already had it on the shelf and went there to purchase it even though I had to pay full price.

What is the purpose of a pre-order (hold/reserve my copy) of a game when they won't hurry their @sses to get it on the store shelf in time?

I understood perfectly that it was a "pre-sell" because it was clearly labeled "pre-sell" on the Best Buy website and in the thread, which is common practice at BB. The free headset and $20 off coupon for the Zboard were the actual "deal" for people who were going to buy the game anyway.

You might as well get some free stuff with a game you are going to buy anyway, right?

Hell yeah! I just wish they would give away some free hookers once in a while...... :D
