H.264 hardware encoder?

Hey, had an idea for a project but didn't know if the hardware I needed actually existed.

What I'd like to do is take my old computer, Whakataruna Hinengaro, and install a hardware H.264 encoder - PCI is best (I'll take USB 2.0 if I -have- to) and use it to archive some of the high definition movie files I've been rendering as H.264 (They can take up to 9GB uncompressed, and while the MacBook Pro is fast, I'd rather be rendering the next uncompressed 9GB file than waiting for the MacBook Pro to finish up the H.264 archived copy.)

I could just use the software rendering and let the puppy churn, but I'd like to see if I can't speed it up even faster.

So anyone know of a H.264 hardware solution that will do 1920x1080 HD processing? Most of the stuff I've found caps out at SD resolutions - designed for putting videos on iPods.
