yeah 5 million sold, and most likely less than half play it. this stat means nothing except how much revenue they've generated via the retail game.

I thought the 5 million was the times they lied to the customers.
OR maybe it was the count of nerfs they have done since it came out.

I would hope so, you're paying $15 a month to play it after the initial purchase.

Only reason I bought Guild Wars is because it had no monthly fee. I've been enjoying it on and off for almost three years now.

Yea same here 3 years on August of this year...I'd like to play WoW but my current system can't handle it. Building a new computer but it got slowed down since i lost my job 2 weeks ago...So completion of my new build will be Q2 maybe...

That's funny, I used to say the same fuckin thing....
Guild Wars expansions are the size of a "free" update in LOTRO, no kidding. Even though it's not monthly they wanted you to pay $50 for them at start, which in the long run adds up being almost as much as a P2P MMO.

After I spent 800 some hours in GW I went ahead and signed up for WoW trial... never looked back, day and night. You can't believe how shitty GW is compared to "15 a month" MMO's,

Monthly fees are so cheap compared to the value you get for them. I know so many people that bought guild wars and "beat the game" in 2-3 months. It's probably a better value than crysis for playtime, but nothing compares to a pay to play mmo.

Guild Wars PvP is definitely better. You don't need to spend money to respec all the time, for one. Also, there are what...like 600+ skills in the game? With dual classes, there's a much larger possibility of combinations and builds in GW than in WoW, so I think it makes things for involved and varied. Of course, when I played, there were real problems when it came to balance (IWAY ruled the HoH).

Currently, I'm playing EVE Online. Pretty cool game, although it takes a long time to get anywhere. I really enjoy the coorporation and politcal aspects to the game.

that was another thing that finally drove me away from GW,,,,pvp it drove the game designers and everything was changed based on what pvp wanted that day.

The expansions are very expensive for what you get and poorly designed. I did the first exp and thought wtf is all this mess.

The original tried to tell a story good or bad they tried and it had a flow to it. Some of the areas were very well done and some of the later instances were great...EXCEPT FOR THE BUGS that kept you from getting credit for completing it....BS
I have done some of the 2-3 times to get credit.

OH YEA did I mention NERFS out the ass and only 8 skills that you can have?

Yeah I've never seen so many nerfs in a game.

My 55 monk has been pretty shaken by the whole thing. She killed many a griffon in her day ;).

Most MMOs do a nerf at one point. FFXI did the great ranger nerf for example. Although most MMOs realize that major nerfs really piss people off. (That was the first and only major nerf that ffxi did btw.) The trick is to find an mmo that suits your play habits. If you play 3-4 hours a week then go enjoy GW. If you want to play 1-4 hours a night then go look at a pay to play mmo.

One of the guys I played with was an Airforce dude from alaska. He played GW hardcore with his sons. After Prophecies they beat every capagn within 2 days, kind of sad. $50 for 2 days of entertainment?

I played GW for about a couple hours before I quit. I played WoW for about a year and a half before I quit.

The game never really drew me in. Not that WoW is great. Inherently my problem with WoW that led to my eventual quitting was that the end game really catered to the 40 man raids, which required a large 4-5 hour time investment in one chunk. What appealed to me about GW was that allegedly that was not the case. However I never lasted nearly long enough to get that far.

Raids now are 25 man, if you have not played the expansion, play it! The feeling I got when I first played wow was something I only got back when I played expansion. The endgame is much richer aswell and easier to get to.

The campaign takes a good 20+hours...that's well above the average length of any $50 singleplayer game. And only a fool thinks an online game like GW ends once you beat the campaign.

Definitely not going to restart that addiction. Took me a while to detox from WoW but I would rather not go back.

25 or 40 man it doesn't really matter, why do people complain that you need a large number of people to do specific endgame stuff in a genre that is called "MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER". If you want to do something with small group of friends, then go play something thats "multiplayer"....

Not for an average MMO though... Guid Wars has good sized campaign for a single player game, but it fails in the MMO world.

Most MMOs do a nerf at one point. FFXI did the great ranger nerf for example.

Because the way the RNG job worked was broken.

However as other jobs were buffed up throughout the next couple years they went back and buffed RNG to match the other current DD jobs.

That's why I enjoyed Guild Wars. I play for about an hour a week and not feel obligated to play beyond that because I'm not paying a monthly fee. Skill nerfs don't bother me in Guild Wars since I only do PvE, and PvE is pretty simple for me regardless of the skills used.

Not for an average MMO though... Guid Wars has good sized campaign for a single player game, but it fails in the MMO world.

I personally don't consider it an MMO due to the fact that you can beat the entire game by yourself (using heroes and henchmen). I would say it's almost closer to Diablo/Diablo 2 than any MMO except you can't play it offline.

Well, have you played WoW PVP? Everyone bitching about class balance,I think it's actually pretty good. I have played GW PVP too, I have yet to find an aspect that is better than WoW's.

You have got to be kidding me....GW pwns WoW. Not about grind. About skill. WoW faggots will defend their game to the death though...

I played wow till 50, then stopped....Had maybe 6 lvl 20's in GW that beat the first 3 campaigns.
Combat is funner in GW, but the fact that it's so confined kills it for me, totally sucks. I think that GW does require more skill, but there simply isn't enough weapon variety nor amor variety to make it a worth-while MMO.

I know what you mean about the variety of items..That is something I really wish they would do.

Yes, me too. In all honesty, if they added some variety to stats/items and add cooler stuff so that not everyone uses the shit I listed below, I will get over the fact that you can't jump and get Eye of the North.

I have had the most fun playing my Ranger throughout all campaigns, especially Prophecies, best campaign ever. I just wish that they would have not ruined the game with Factions, although Ritualists are the shit.

I liked gw for maybe like 2 weeks then never played it again.

Their items system is seriously limited in terms of mods. In their zealous philisophy of catering to the 'casual' players they made every items virtually the same whether its off the end boss or from a cheap merchant.... I don't want to waste time just to get that special skin, while the stats are the same. It seriously killed the longevity of a game. The story wasn't that great, but its tolerable. The game had some pretty graphics.

If it only had a better item system and better trading mechanics then it would have been a great game. Too bad ...
I mean if you looked at diablo 2 which had SHORTER storyline and worse graphics, yet its more popular. It all had to do with the great economy. Trading in gold and platinum sucks nuts, give me sojs anyday =)

Haven't played it in a while I think they did fix it.

I remember going to UW to get this awesome armor for 1million that had identical fucking stats to cheap 5k armor, just looked a bit cooler.

I do agree...sure weapons had 50 skins of the EXACT same damn thing.
There was NO better weapons any more than there were better armor...runes helped some but not that much.

AND EVERY SPELL or SKILL boost has a 20% chance of working...WTF is up with that
I think the random in it kept the user from knowing if anything in the damn game worked.

AUction house how many damn times in the 2 years has that little bitch said it was in the works,,still NOTHING
AND THE BIG BS ====level 20 OH its only a number.

there are a total of about 4 skills that have a 50% chance to fail if u dont meet a req out of 500 or so skills thats not bad
and the whole lvl 20 thing IS just a number sure the pve is fun but the game is really about the pvp and they wanted people to do it so they didnt want em to grind to max lvl for so long

and now wow tries to copy them by doing their pvp char's max lvl max armor and weapons

iv logged 3200 hours in gw over the last couple years and i still find it fun

oh ya yes they still have 55 monks and lots of other solo builds for every other class in the game

Well, that's one of the nice things about GW PVP I guess. Since everybody has the same armour and weapon, it would only be about the skill/build. In WoW, however, you need to spend 100s of hours grinding your armour pieces to gain some sort of advantage over other players.
