GTX 970 - 2nd fan question

does the 2nd fan on the GTX 970 suppose to spin constantly?

I've noticed that when I power up the PC both fans spin... then the one of the fans stop spinning. When I power off the PC the 2nd fan spins up again before shutting down.

The card I have is the Galax 970 EXOC.

Sorry new at this but I was under the impression that the fans are suppose to be always spinning, just at lower revolutions if it isnt stressed...

Does anyone here own this card and let me know how it does. Afterburner has it just breaking into the yellow line for GPU temp.

My MSI 980 will spin down both fans completely at the desktop.

The card is based on a dual-slot dual fan cooling solution. In idle one of the fans spins, the other one is disabled. Under load the 2nd one will spin up. Especially in an idle status this makes the product silent, you do get a bit of airflow over your components.

I have the same card and noticed that as well, definitely by design. I cranked up a game and sure enough the other fan came on. I don't think I've ever cracked 70C on this card so it runs cool in comparison to the previous generation cards.
