My GTX 480 2d clocks at 405 Mhz core outside games on the desktop. I'm running 3 monitors with a 8400GS adjacent to my 480.

Idle desktop temps 78C.

For some reason, the core stays at 405 Mhz in BFBC2 during gameplay, not just menu. In Metro 2033, it immediately ramps up to 701 Mhz when I boot up the game into the main menu.

Is there a reason for this? Bad drivers or bad card?

Try changing "Power management mode" under Global in the nV control panel, to "Prefer maximum performance". See if that ramps it to 3d clocks properly. My GTX 470 is running in 3d clocks as set, when BFBC2 is running.

Try making sure all the aa/af is enabled. Max it out to put more stress on it.

This worked. At anything higher than 16xAA apparently the 480 thinks BFBC2 is worthy of 3D clocks. I could always manually set the clocks but I'm too lazy.

Haha, Fermi - so powerful it runs BFBC2 with idle clocks when under 16xAA.

;)
