GTX 1080 or 1070 + LG 24GM77

As title states, I'm torn between buying a GTX 1080 and then a monitor upgrade later down the road, or a 1070 + the LG 24GM77 now, a 144Hz gaming screen that has pretty great reviews?

Price are around the same for both options. Currently gaming on a BenQ GW2240 + GTX 970.

I'm 100% sure the 1070 won't reach 120/144 FPS on most games today with max settings, but would a 1080 manages?

If you're really an fps junkie you'll turn down as much as needed to peg you're refresh rate. I'm planning on a 1070 with Benq XL2430T myself, at 1080p it should be able to push hard enough in FPS or MOBA games.

It all comes down to the titles you play. I'm looking forward to 1440p or 4K gaming above 100hz but I don't think the hardware is there yes, at least as the price range I'm considering

yep, titles are whats gonna matter.

if you want the latest hottest games, no its not going to be at 120fps. ive seen completely maxxed out some at ~ 80 on a 1070. Those are what? less than 40 or so titles. the other 4000+ will be fine.

if you're playing mobas, overwatch, or other things you'll be well ahead of 120 maxxed out.
