GTA Vice City & Sequels- No More !

You must be pretty young. This happens routinely and has happened many, many times in the 20 years I've been gaming.
 
LOL! I'm from west palm beach and this doesnt suprise me one bit... what if we made a game based in haiti? they love to kill each other in the streets.
 
Exactly Snuggle! This as, always comes from people with out enough to do in their lives. And if the 15K figure is right, it isnt much of a lawsuit. I doubt this will change anything and, shouldnt.
 
Old article, but I love how they can manage to totally forget about the context of the game and that particular set of missions. Not to mention you don't get points...unless they mean money, which you only get at the end of the mission, not for "each kill." And "each kill" is to a gang member..a DANGEROUS gang member. Are these lawsuit-filing retards really trying to advocate that we all leave the gangs of the world alone to do as they please? Ok, I can deal with that. And when the world goes to complete shit, rather than just shit, we know who to blame.

ok, so the hatians are pissed, they sue.
rockstar retaliates and takes it to the federal court.

now lets say hypothetically speaking that the hatians won the case and their money was awarded to them.
what would they do with the money?
they suposedly asked for more than $15,000 in damages.
so where is the damage at?
what sort of damage is this? its certainly not phisical damage.
the money they are suing for wont do a thing to repair the so called damage that has been done to the hatian comunity, if anything they are doing this out of anger because they feel they have been wrongfully portrayed in a video game, in other words they feel insulted, so if i were to walk up to a hatian/asian/mexican/ and insult them would i get sued?

the people in the hatian comunity who are boycoting and suing and causing all this trouble for rockstar are full of it.
all Rockstar/Vice City did was portray the comunity how it was back in the 70's - 80's, when the setting of the game takes place, nothing more.
after all, the hatians and cubans were notorious in those years for their gangs and acts of crime, their territorial fudes and drug pedling.
 
$15,000 seems like such a paltry amount for a lawsuit. What will they do with the money? Probably buy more drugs and weapons. Maybe they're low on funds and see this as a way to replenish them.

That sounded quite rasistic to me even if I hope it´s suggested as a joke. I didn´t react much to that title when playing Vice city but I can see why they sue Rockstar for it. Of course they got offended. I mean it´s not like Haiti is the only country in the world without a drug problem. Name one that hasn´t? Be it alcohol, drugs, tobacco or whatever.

But then Rockstar doesn´t like being politically correct. That is one reason why I like Mafia much better than the GTA games even if I enjoy them too. GTA is a bit to unserious and childish for my taste. Preferr Simpson Hit & Run every day for that kind of action.
 
Trust me, the GTA series isn't going anyways. The next installment of the series has already been announced, and is planned for release next fall. Even though I'm questioning the validity of this page, click here.

I don't get this law suit. They should play the game, it doesn't mean to go kill all the Hatians on the earth or even random Hatians, it means all Hatians in the gang. Aren't these little lawsuits getting boring? A lot of Americans die in the game, maybe I should sue. There are a lot of other foreign born people in the game diying, maybe everyone should sue. :rolleyes:

I've got it, change it to "Sit down and talk nicely to all the evil Hatian American people in the horrible gang and tell them how they should change their ways so that they don't continue down the road to hate and eternal damnation. If your judges are anything like those in Canada, you'll get some self righteous judge who wasn't voted for, but decides they know what's best, and the Grand Theft Auto series will be summarily shut down. Screw the legislative branch and burn the judges. I can make my own decisions, or even better, take the blame for letting my elected officials make the mistake.
 
I've played through all the GTA games since the beginning... not a single one made me hate any race, creed, color, etc. However, 100 hatian-americans standing outside a walmart irritating the hell out of me would certainly make me have a negative view.
 
If GTA has them mad, I bet Scarface really pissed them off...

Rockstar could always claim that their right to freedom of speech was imposed upon, assuming this case goes through to anything significant (Which it won't).

Your kidding me right? Your the same type of person that sues eminem for your son's suicide. It had nothing to do with the parents or lifestyle at all.

Rockstar put an age limit on the game. Kudos for doing so. It's not their responsibilty to enforce it just as it's not the porn industries job to enforce the 18 and over law.
 
I guess youd have to get rid of every game on the shelves than. Vietcong....BF1942.....MOH:AA.....

When reality is portrayed...there are a sad few people that won't accept it. Miami in the 80's was filled with hispanic drug lords. Still is, from what I hear on the news every night.

I wonder how many Haitian kids in Miami play this game.

I agree with you 100% Their case is so stuipid it is not even funny... And what exactly is the $15,000 for ??? what for their mental anguish that they are experiencing.... Give me a mother fucking break this is BS. If this was for a real purpose than they would not be asking for a single dime and they would just want people to hear their case. And it is funny that all the spanish people from the first one ( GTA III ) never came forward and said one thing, but this sorry ass bunch of hatians just decided to make a quick buck, shit even the asians did not come forward and say anthing about how they were portrayed in GTA III. I guess pretty soon they will have to create a new race just for moives and video games, so that no one gets offended, and everyone can just hate on the new race..... maybe they should be pink.... I think the 15K is for some ganga. Jeeze man GTA is an equal opportunity killer. The previous installment you were killing PuetroRicans and, Italians. You didnt hear them, pissing and, moaning. The Cubans and, Hatians need to quit taking themselves so seriously. So set the next one in Boston and, kill some redheaded Irishmen.

The phrase `kill the haitians`, used in the context of a fictional gang war in a videogame where the haitians are a rival gang, certainly isn't going to come off as hate speech. They're also going to be hard pressed to show it incites violence against Haitians. Sure, many young, impressionable kids are playing the game, but then there's a big Mature label on the box as a warning to parents about the content of the game. It is, after all, up to parents to prevent their kids from playing this if they don't want them exposed.

Chances are they're not asking for a whole lot more, as it wouldn't benefit their lawsuit to come off as a group of lackeys looking for a quick payday through a multi-million settlement or judgement. Well said. Like mentioned it's all about the parents. Im sick to death of people blaming everyone else for their Johnny playing a game rated 'Mature' and never thinking maybe it's their job to enforce it as the parent. Maybe the industry should start attaching parenting HowTo's with all M rated games and media.

They should be caught for this since 15 000 $ or what it was is quite reasonable for that stupid mission naming. It´s the same why people should get banned from forums just going out to be a jerk and calling people names.

If you don´t think we get affected by what we see on tv I don´t no what. Explain then why we need to have more and more violence in action movies/games to feel anything. Because we get used to it. It´s like why we need better and better graphics all the time and why DOOM unmodded is virtually unplayable these days because of the dated graphics.

Kill the Haitians can be called as racistic and quite rightfully so.

Your so far off base its not funny. American media is pumped with violence. How often do they play the good things? They focus on the violence. How many movies are set in a certain time frame or genre and portray violence or rasiscm as its relevent.

Then you wanna turn around and sue a little old game company for giving a game a plot line that actually happens to be the TRUTH for its time setting.

It's pointless arguing though. Any Judge worth their weight will throw it out so fast. The IT industry is a big f**kin joke with its lawsuits right now. Between angry wellfare folks trying to cash in suing game companies and bitter folks like sun suing microsoft over anything they can to stay in the headlines.

The truth is that in the game setting and in that lifestyle the haitians were infect portrayed correctly as a majority.

exaclty. The people no doubt know the intention of the game and know what the words mean in the context of the game. They just choose to be the typical attention seeking american and take it out of context to get in the media.

People seem to have a real hard time with the word context this days.

Your a clown mate. LOOK AT THE GAME. Its not based on the entire city is it? Its based on the Gang Community of which in its time the haitians are being portrayed correctly.
