I wonder what ever happened to Panasonic's layered LCD panel tech. It always seemed like a better design than FALD to me. Essentially two LCD panels stacked on top of each other instead of 1000:1 contrast you had 1,000,000:1. I had thought they released an (expensive) professional monitor with this tech but I can't find the model number. It's obviously got issues including requiring a super bright backlight to compensate for the loss from two panels, and potential issues with syncing the two panels, and other stuff like that. But it still seemed like a more scalable solution than just infinitely increasing the density of the backlight. Maybe it proved impractical for some reason. E: AH, it did make it into the flagship Eizo HDR Reference Monitor that just came out for $31K. Seems reasonable.
