Building a new i9-9900K system soon.

Rite now, I have available at a local computer store:

    1. Gskill Trident Z RGB 3600 C18
    2. Gskill Trident Z RGB 3200 C16

Both same price. I can get either of them at anytime from my local store.

Or is it better off for me to order online and wait for delivery of

    3. Gskill Trident Z RGB 3600 C14,
    Priced about 1.7x higher.

I don't mind spending the extra, but will there be any noticeable gains?
    I will be mostly gaming @ 1440p and 4K.

3200c14\3600 C14 can be overclocked which will increase CPU performance in most games more than overclocking the CPU itself vs the 3200c16\3600c18 kits which have a similar latency.
But at 4k you will be completely GPU bottlnecked in most games to the point where you wouldn't notice the difference between a 5930K and the 9900K in which case any gains to CPU performance from faster RAM are obviously not going to be noticeable.

If you worry about c4 vs c16 i hope you are doing manual thread dsitribution or are using my project mercury

For gamming avoindg SMT conflcits is probably the same or more of a performance boost as the CL difference

    My list included 3200 c16, not c14.

You are not going to notice a difference with any of those kits in a Intel platform. The two 3200 kits are probably the same. You could manually dial in either settings and be fine probably. I wouldn't spend the extra money for the 3600 kit unless you going to upgrade to a ryzen 3xxx series CPU in the near future.

Intel sees large gains from RAM speed.

How noticeable it is will depend on how CPU limited the game is.

Overclocking my 3200c14 kit to 3600c14\3866c16\4000C17 improved my 6700K performance in most games more than overclocking my 6700K by 500MHz.

No your list doesn't Include 3200C14 I just suggested it as it may be a better value option than 3600C14.
3200c16 uses Hynix chips which are crap overclockers and the 3600C18 kit is likely much the same.

3600 16-16-16 is also using Samsung b die chips if you cant find 3200c14 but if you don't want to OC the RAM it doesn't really matter.

Seems people find it tough to get 3200 c14 trident Z overclocked to 3600 without loosening the timings?

Probably requires more voltage but even then it may be harder. 3600c14 isnt easy to achieve from 3200. Im sure gskill are binning ics tighter with the release of so many tight timing 3600/3733 kits they are now offering. Not to mention samsung stopped making b die. It may be easier to downclock 4000 or 4200.

3600c14 is a hard ask and some kits may require 1.5v+ to obtain it along with a good MB\BIOS\CPU but most will do c15.
Maybe I got lucky both my 2x8GB 3200c14 kits do 3600 14-15-15 with 1.456v actual and 1.475v set in BIOS.
The aggressively binned G.Skill 3600c14 kit's only need 1.4v to run there rated speed.

I guess that is why they are so much more expensive?

I am kind of interested in getting a set? Lol

Edit: I didn't mention, that the game I will be mainly smashing for a while is PUBG. According to alot of testers, the ram speed makes a huge difference for this game as many have tested. That is why I am very keen on high speed ram.
