and why not? shitty adsl internet u got or ?

Everyone's a hacker that's better than me! Seriously you only need 4 people if you want to do the most fun missions(heists) of online. I'm not sure why you don't seem to be able to find a group of friends that can't coordinate, that seems like a bigger issue than dedicated servers. What exactly would dedicated servers solve in this game?

Hey, if you enjoy it as it is now, don't let me stop you. Don't feign ignorance as to the issues, however. I'm just telling you the score. In two months, it'll be as dead as it is on console. I've got better things to do now, and you'll probably have better things to do by then. :)

I'm very impressed with the optimization of this game right out of the box. Way better than IV in that regard. Take the time and install the AMD/ATI 15.4 Beta drivers. Crossfire wasn't working with the Omega (14.12) release.

These are my benchmark results for my trifire 7950's at 2560x1600.

Okay i bought the game...even tho i have had copies of the same game on ps3 ,ps4 and now on pc lmao

So I just installed Watch Dogs again to see how the 980 handled it.. The game finally runs smooth even at Ultra..

But. Wow.. Seeing it again after months.. Graphics wise.. GTA V blows it away.. I forgot what WD really looked like and.. There is no comparison.. It's laughable..

On the last page someone posted some large pictures and mentioned triple buffering and v-sync.

Since there is no triple buffering option in the game menus I'm assuming they meant they forced it on from their GPU console (AMD or Nvidia)

I'll have to try that myself for laughs.

So far I've been playing with vsync off and I've had minimal tearing on occasion. Nothing outrageous.

I don't really know how many times this has to be said, Direct3d does not do triple buffering. Does Not... In some cases there is an option for a flip cue buffer but that is not triple buffering and does not work the same way. OpenGL will do it, and as far as I know, the only triple buffering option in the drivers specifically states it is for OpenGL.

That said, with Vsync off, I have no noticeable tearing in game. Only on the opening Rockstar video.

Hate to be the flaming guy but.. the crashes to desktop are steering me away from this game :(

Really on the fence about whether to buy the game or not.

I had it for PS3 and really enjoyed finishing the story. It's been long enough that I feel I could play the story again and it wouldn't feel stale. The only thing I'm worried about is part of the reason I want to get it is for online play, specifically doing heists, but I have no friends playing it.

Can get for $46 through GOG, so should I bite or not?

Only time I ever got a CTD was when I ended the Launcher in the task manager...

Very minimal here.

Yes.

I played it on PS3 when it came out and then moved on to other games for however many months that was.

Coming from that it's like playing a new game practically. You will be bowled over.

Online will get some support and improve. I've played two Heists with stranger with no real issues. Like any other online game, you're going to come in and have a mix of good players and idiots.

Overall, I don't think you will regret it. I know I sure don't!

It's worth it alone for KB/M in FPS mode. Not even counting the graphics & framerate improvements over the console versions.

This is a completely different game in FPS w/ m/KB... it's amazing.

I'm having really bad performance problems, not sure why people call this game an optimized port....
5930K and a single Titan X here, at 2560x1440 all settings Very High or Ultra but no MSAA. I already turned the Grass down to Very High but as soon I get anywhere near vegetation the game is like unplayable. Lowering Post FX from Ultra to Very High helps a little but its still very bad. It feels very similar to Arma 3 that way, like when I move my camera fast it would stutter or even freeze for a short moment. Any suggestions what settings are causing this?

The mouse implementation is pretty bad as has already been mentioned here, but you should give us some fps numbers to work with, as well as the rest of your settings.

Well it actually shows 60 FPS most of the time but the camera feeling is far from that. I use kb/mouse when on foot but gamepad for driving, gamepad feels even worse as far smoothness goes. When I drive north to the Countryside i'm dropping to 40-45 FPS with Grass at Very High and everything else left at max. In the City area its perfect though.

This is obviously you.. I'm running it now at 2715x1527 on my new 980 and experiencing none of what you describe and my settings are set higher than yours..

The foliage is a killer in this game especially with MSAA and TXAA activated. Even a single Titan X can't keep up. Turn those down first if you've got 'em on.

So you are saying your 980 is running this all smooth max settings everywhere? Hard to believe.

My full settings are:

2560x1440 Fullscreen
Vsync On (Trible Buffering forced in Nv Control Panel)
FXAA: On
MSAA: Off
Population Density: Max
Population Variety: Max
Distance Scaling: Max
Texture Quality: Very High
Shader Quality: Very High
Shadow Quality: Very High
Reflection Quality: Ultra
Reflection MSAA: Off
Water Quality: Very High
Particles Quality: Very High
Grass Quality: Very High
Soft Shadows: Softest
Post FX: Ultra
Motion Blue: Min
In-Game DoF: On
AF: X16

In the advanced menu:

As I said, its running great in the city area but as soon I drive north to the countryside with a lot vegeation around i'm getting really bad stuttering that seems to be unrelated to current FPS. The game is running stable though I have no problems with that even the online part works good.

Yeah thats probably it. I lowered it even further from Very High to just High and the northern parts of the map are smoother now. Rest is left at max. Maybe thats why Nvidia's official guide recommends Titan X SLI lol.

Yeah, it's a big drain and it doesn't look all that much better the higher you go, honestly.

Thanks again for the hint, its running good now and I don't really notice the difference. I'm only playing online at the moment so other lag problems might be network related.

Ahhh, that was me that mentioned the triple buffering not being enabled by default.

What was happening is if the frame rate went below the refresh rate (60hz), the frame rate would drop to half the refresh rate (30fps)... However, after I alt-tabbed out and back into the game, the frame rate was not cut in half and could be any number between 30 and 60. This allows for a much smoother and consistent gameplay experience.

Now, the ONLY technical term I know for this effect is "triple buffering". I'm not sure what other setting creates this type of effect. Regardless of the accuracy of the technical term, if you use Vsync there is a notable gameplay improvement once the frame rate doesn't get locked to 30fps when dipping below 60fps and you're on 60hz refresh.

I tried to transfer my character from ps4 to pc and my garages and cars didnt cross over

were you able to resolve this?

are you still able to use your ps4 character as well as your pc character?

what i mean is, does your ps4 character stop existing?

The PC version looks loads better than the consoles IMO. You'd think that's obvious but on some games the difference isn't so massive as displayed here.

I'd still like to see some real-world PS4 vs PC comparisons.
PS4 screenshots must be taken using a capture card, not the in-game camera.

Use 'DirectInput' instead of raw input for mouse settings.

I just did some further testing and it seems the frame rate ONLY gets cut to 30fps when around grass. When driving around Los Santos, the frame rate can fluctuate under 60fps and not get cut down to 30fps.

However, alt-tabbing still remedies the 30fps issue in grass areas.

Went ahead and picked it up.

The download took just a little over an hour, and it installed without a hitch. Went ahead and set it to 1080P with pretty much everything set to high except texture (2GB video memory FTL), and it both looks beautiful and runs smooth as butter on my new system. Only played around so far in story mode but not seeing any dips in FPS, just really solid so far.

Looking forward to trying out heist later.

I have yet to finish a single heist.
Somebody always disconnects in the middle, or crashes, etc. I always get through the first few stages and then during a transition *poof* it kicks me back to free roam.

The problem of DX11 applications having their frame rate locked at 30 FPS in situations where the machine cannot maintain a constant 60 isn't exclusive to GTAV. I've seen this in many games, Arkham City, Dying Light, Far Cry 3 etc.

The solution, as you said, is to switch from full screen to windowed mode and back again - via alt+tab or alt+enter.

Isn't that some form of vsync?
Just force adaptive and you'll be fine.

Or stop being a filthy casual and disable vsync entirely. Play without input lag for once!
