GPU Accelerated Flash 10.1 Prerelease!

Well, this is about four years later than we should have expected.

Apparently doesn't support NVIDIA G80 cards, though. Suck.

I'll stick with the old version for now and wait for the bugs to be hammered out (as this is only a prerelease). Good to FINALLY see things moving in the right direction though!

I will switch to a 64 bit browser as soon as there is a 64 bit flash for windows, but until then it is useless since flash takes up more than half of my browser usage.

I would use it but it instantly causes extreme stuttering/lag as soon as I load any flash video. Any suggestions?

My only issue is that after reading the release notes, they added a large list of compatible Nvidia cards compared to the paltry list of ATI and Intel supported GPUs/chipsets. I have an HD3870, but the only desktop-compatible video card is the HD4000 series and higher. Only the mobile variant of my video card is compatible, but the desktop one isn't? That doesn't make sense.

Is this Nvidia's fault (and throwing money around) or Adobe's? ATI's?

I even made a forum post on Adobe's forum here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/525880?tstart=0

Trying to get some answers. If there isn't any more compatible cards added, this looks like it's only beneficial to Nvidia cards only.

Both vendors have a very small amount of cards that support it. This just isn't AMD. I'd like to know if it's NV and AMD not willing to do the work or if this is just Adobe being lazy as usual. I'm betting on Adobe as being the weak link.

I just wish they had released the 10.1 beta for Android 2.0. I want my mobile Flash dammit!

"Hardware video decoding of H.264 content in Flash Player 10.1 is supported on the Intel® 4 Series Chipset family, starting with the graphics driver version 15.16.2.1986 for 32/64-bit Windows Vista and Windows 7."

Something is wrong here with that list.

It's either Nvidia threw a lot of money Adobe's direction and we're going to have another "The way it's meant to be played" in the next Flash Player update, or this is a driver issue. What is it?

At least with Family Guy on Hulu, I noticed a large hit in picture quality going from the latest stable version of Flash 10 to the prerelease of 10.1. Sure, it helped on my nettop with Ion chipset in being smoother in fullscreen 480p, but on my laptop and desktop that already handled hd flash fine it wasn't worth upgrading for the loss of quality =(

You do realize that NV only listed every card from their current architecture and some of the previous architecture. Not to mention NV rehashes and renames their chips more then Prince does. AMD could have done the same and typed out every card but instead they listed anything from the current architecture (5000 series), the older architecture(4000 series), and their only IGP chipset architecture out there. Seems pretty even to me...

It's a matter of DXVA2 support. Fewer AMD cards support DXVA2 than NVIDIA cards.
