Got my Westinghouse LVM-37W3 37" 1080p display today!

How long did everyone's take to ship from Costco??? I ordered mine on Friday and it's still not showing any tracking info on the Order Status page. It's annoying. I'm being really impatient with this thing... haha.

My order was placed Wednesday morning, shipped Friday night (~7PM EST). I would expect that it will ship tonight or tomorrow.

Ohhhh, I suppose that's normal. Freaking Newegg's just got me spoiled on their same day shipping.

Gracias!

Ok, after posting yesterday, I come back today to bring you pics of this baby. Well, I didn't put pics yesterday since I got the biggest headache. The buttons on this sucker don't work, so I cannot turn down the brightness, so that's what cause it. I mean, you don't notice it right away, but you feel how slowly you eyes start to hurt. Or maybe cuz I'm sitting way to close.
Anyways, I called Westinghouse about the problem. We went through a few steps, with no luck, the buttons would no work. So they said that I need to contact the place where I got it from, so I did. I called Costco about the problem again, and they said that they don't allow exchanges, that the only way is to go to a store, and they would give me back my money, including shipping. And after they give me back my money, repurchase it. So, I mean, that's fine with me. I just hope they give me back my money fast, before this deal ends. I'll return this as soon as my uncle comes back from work, since he has a SUV so I can take it.

Well, changing topic, I was really amazed how little performance difference there is from 1280x1024 I used to run, from this new 1920x1080. I was able to run Lineage 2 at max, Fear at mid-high, UT2004 at max. All those games support the monitor's resolution, and they ran perfect. So that made me think a little. Seems like resolution doesn't affect games as much, as actual detail setting does, like AA, and so on. But well, playing on in was BEAUTIFUL. Playing FPS on this makes everything so much easier, literally. I can kill A LOT more in FEAR now, and In UT2004 I get head-shots most of the time. So yeah, having a big tv definetly helps.
I tried to run videos from Apple in HD. Well, my pc can run the 720p perfect. But when I try 1080p, It lags so much. It's weird that there's such a big difference in performance from those two, and even more when I can play at 1920x1080 just fine.

Anyways, to make a long story short...well, shorter...here are the pics:
_______________(click for full-size)________

The box was pretty damaged. But I took the risk. The westy was perfect inside tho'

WTF did UPS did to my box? The dark spot next to the 37, there was food there. Leterally, no lie. Seems like UPS guys eat in their truck.

This is how it looks on my desk. I hate that WMP stay on the middle on the toolbar. I end up hovering over it all the time, and you know how annoying it is to have to wait to go back to normal.

Don't laugh, my real mouse broke.:( And yes, I need a bigger desk.

Just so you get an idea of how much of the website you can fit.

W00t. It's gigantic.

Lineage II running at 1920x1080. Whoa, Nice! I swear I play on this with a smile on my face.

Need For Speed: Pro Street Trailer at 720p.

Transformers Trailer at 720p.

Casino Royal DVD Movie at 480p.

Fantastic 4 Trailer at 1080p.

Fantastic 4 Trailer at 1080p.

So yeah, as many had said, pics do not make justice as how big, nice, sharp, clear......this Westy is. Is just breathtaking. I recomend to buy to ANYONE. There is just nothing bad about it. Lots of resolution. Big size. Very sharp.

Ok, I hope you enjoy those. and sorry about my camara. :(

I just got mine in from costco. It's firmware 1.0. The damn thing looks gorgeous. I need to call the cable company and switch to an hdtv box.

Cool stuff. it's why most of us bit on this as its Costco! In any case, you tried softly massaging the dead pixel w/ cloth/pen ? Heard that's the best method to remove stuck pixels.

Sadly, I did try that and any other methods I could find along with running jscreenfix for about an hour, but still no dice.

Hi, to all the ones that have been following my story, I just got back from Costco. I returned the tv, and they game my money back right away. I was impressed since I got there and they ask me "Why are you returning it?", and I said "I got it yesterday, and it doesn't work", and then they said "Ok, give me a moment to check it and we'll give you your money back". Just like that. I love Costco. Awesome return, they game me a card worth the exact amount of money I spend. That includes Cost + Shipping & Handling + Tax, so that is pretty cool. So yeah, I'm back here at home, typing from this little 19" screen again. :( WOW, I never felt this screen so small. You really get used to that Westy fairly quick. Well, I'll be placing another order tonight. They said the money should be activated automatically.

Are you using Quicktime to play them? The Apple-provided codecs are absolutely atrocious. Grab Quicktime Alternative. It includes some alternative codecs for playing back h.264 hi-def content that are significantly more efficient. Apple's codecs make my Opty 165 croak. I have zero issues running hi-def content with the other codecs.

Is the 1080p setting here? I really can't find any other spot where you select either between 1080i/p, besides resolution settings.

Could anyone else answer my question?

I didn't set it to 1080p as it did itself automatically.. but hearing how a lot of people have to change the setting in nVIDIA's control panel makes me wonder whether I do have to do it.

From what I've read, yes you definitely have to do that.

OMG. I just install it. It's like day to night difference. Now I can run my 1080p videos so smooth. Now I just need my replacement tv to arrive, so I can see how it looks on the westy. Here looks perfect. The only problem so far is the sound. I set it to 5.1, but I still get stereo. In the 300 Movie Trailer, the narrator is suppost to talk only through the center channel, now he talks in other speakers as well. Uhmmm. What Can I do here?

Mine was like that too. It got configured to 1080p automatically. But I mean, it looks pretty sharp. I can't even think of it getting any more clear, and if it some how does, I swear I'll smile for days of pure happiness. But I mean, mine ran at 1920x1080@60hertz, and it looked good to me. To check it somewhere else, go into "Screen Resolution & Refresh Rates". It says it there too.

Got my westy yesterday from costco. It has 2 dead pixels and the firmware is v 1.0. No big deal. I'm happy with it.

Can anyone tell me how to adjust the picture setting so that I can watch HD programming at 1080i? I have direct tv with hd and somehow the picture doesn't seem right. However, when hooked to the computer it is amazing.

Try seeing if you can set the output of the cable box to 720p, just for comparison.

Just received my display this evening. Even my wife was impressed- first time that's happened outside the bedroom. It really is the most amazing display I have ever used. If you're thinking about it- do it. If you can just barely afford it- do it. You don't have to be a couch potato- the first thing I used the monitor for was Netathon- did a 2hour ride and almost forgot it was raining outside and I was sweating away on a trainer inside.

I've been watching this thread for a few months and was pretty convinced that I was not going to take a chance on ordering one from Newegg or Crutchfield and have to send it back because of some defect input jack, dead pixel, etc. There were just enough people here having those problem out of the box to make me not want to gamble a $100 return shipping cost. Westinghouse is not exactly known for the highest QA, but this set has such a great feature set at a low price that it is insanely tempting. Said to myself, if only Costco carried this, I could buy it worry-free. :)

So once they got it on their website the other week, I was sold. Ordered mine last Weds afternoon and received it Friday. No dead pixels and it looks good. And I get a 3 year warranty to boot (1 yr Westinghouse + 2 yrs Costco). It replaces a Vizio 37" 720p set that I was using before. The Vizio had fantastic colors and a better remote and better PIP, but the res in games/Windows was not high enough.

To the guy above who wondered if Costco got a batch of beat-up sets and was trying to pawn them off - you have obviously not dealt with Costco much. They have hands-down the best return policy out, as mentioned above. If you order something on their website and decide to return it, they will even refund your shipping/handling costs. Who does that??!?!?! They do not sell sub-par damaged merchandise and that is why they can stand behind such a bullet-proof return policy. :D

OK. So I've had it for about a week now and can now comment on some things I've noticed. First and foremost is that what initially seemed like overkill now seems normal. Oy.

I got the 42" refurbished model from Newegg for $1000 shipped (they refunded my AIT delivery charge after I stayed at home for 2 days without delivery). There are no blemishes at all on the monitor and no dead pixels - hooray. The screen is absolutely gorgeous and I have to admit, I don't know if I'll ever be able to use a "normal" display again. The inputs on the back are numerous and well laid out, with input jacks on both sides of the column. I use the display primarily as a computer monitor from about 3-4 feet away and it works great (my eyes are terrible). I can read text without craning in all the time like I did with my older 17" and 22" panels. The only real negative I can find is that the 1000:1 contrast level really doesn't cut it for movies. Blacks aren't really black, but a washed out gray. It's very obvious with dark scenes. For the money I really can't complain though. It's pretty frikkin sweet.

I've had the Westy for 2 days now and really like it. It is replacing a fantastic Dell 2407. I'm still getting use to the size and have gotten little sleep because I'm up playing on it all night. Any suggestions on the video settings as I'm still messing with those?

Has anyone gotten the BF2 hack to work in 1080? I had it set to 1920 x 1200 on my 2407 and when I switch it to 1920 x 1080 BF2 will not load.

Just another testimonial for Costco. I have been eyeing this screen for about 3 months, and also the Sharp equivalents. Just waiting for price to come down.

Just so happens, the Viewsonic 22" screen I purchased from Costco back in Aug 06 started acting up, shutting off and the backlight looks like its fading. I call Costco "Can I return this screen, it's dying". Sweet lady, "Yes, bring in your receipt for a full refund".

Their standard return policy is 1 year with some exclusions (like computers, iPods, TVs, cameras, etc). Now, with a $400 exchange, this makes this screen even cheaper. Better now that it's $800 so this made this purchase very easy to make. Ordered Monday afternoon, waiting for shipping, but imagine it will be here tomorrow as I'm pretty close to the shipping hub.

Can't wait. Now I need Costco's wall mount.

Got my TV today and this thing is amazingly big. It almost doesn't fit on my desk. The box the TV came in was damn near perfect no dents or scratches so the TV works very well the only thing I will not is that the backlight bleeding is rather harsh in all four colors but I almost don't notice unless i got to www.tribalwar.com/forums and the blue makes it stand out. I will post some pictures after lunch.

Well, you all have suckered me in. Just ordered one from Costco. I hope this thing can really function well as a 50/50 PC monitor/gaming monitor. Also ordered my DVI-D cable from Monoprice, so I should be good to go. If I don't like it I guess I can always return it and pick up an LG 24" at BB. Heard they are pretty sweet, too...

Hmm.. maybe its the new NVIDIA drivers? It automatically set it for me and just made me wonder why everyone was claiming that you had to set it from 1080i to 1080p to get the full effect of the screen. At least with either the new firmware or the new nvidia drivers, looks like people won't have to worry about that.

You know what- I never said the sets were beat up- but the boxes. Lots of people are reporting the boxes are either bent- holes in them- etc. I have dealt with Coscto plenty and the condition of the box has nothing to do with their return policy. I don't know how you make that leap about my statement (which I said was just a theory) and the quality of their return policy. I love my set- I love shopping for costco- but I just had to wonder why lots of people are having their boxes damaged and why the firmware received is all over the place- Costco never carried the set before- so they should have had a pallet of the same run- with the same firmware. Again- doesn't matter to me because their return policy is solid- but again- its just a theory.

probably the new drivers auto detect better... my wild ass guss. each time I reload the new drivers it asks me if I want to go to 1920x1080 1080p etc.. anyways..

I can't wait for this thing to arrive at my front door hsklhfaskjgadgjshgdkj!!!!

Same boat. Ordered mine Friday night and haven't seen anything. Seems like most people's shipped within 2-3 days. I hope to Jebus they didn't run out. Maybe they're just not 100% at updating the Order Status page and it'll be here tomorrow! :D

Mine just came!!! :D :D :D :D :D ITS FREEKING HUUUGE!!!! :D :D :D :D

Pics to come...

:D

Ahhh... yes.. I remember that feeling. :D then my wife came home and was like... well, roughly the same expression with some four lettered colorful metaphours tossed in. lol.
/me wipes a tear.. ;)

congratz and welcome to club Westy. :)

ps: TheFaz.. lol. classic. but the gals around the westy should have a tongue on it. :p

why hello ladies! GIGGITY GIGGITY GIGGITY!

Wow, did that guy get that monitor for his office or something? Who signed off on THAT budget? :D

I'm ordering a second westy since I was so happy with my first purchase. I'm going to run it in a dual monitor mode.

First of all, I'm color blind but the rest of my family is not. They indicated there's something very wrong with the color display of my just received w3 namely seems like the red is missing.
noredsgi9.th.jpg

I've adjusted the monitor to the values suggested here in the forum, messed about with the resolution, color values in my video card control panel, etc to no avail. I can hook the DVI cable up to my old Acer and the colors are there. My card is an ATI 1950. I've tested both with Kubuntu and MS Windows XP.

Any ideas on what might be going on or is it time to call Costco?

Have you tried tightening the VGA or DVI cable, or tried a different one? Sounds like its an issue with the connection rather than the monitor itself. . . at least, I can't recall ever seeing an LCD losing one color that wasn't the result of a bad cable. Each pixel operates independently of the others, so it's unlikely they would all just not display red unless the red signal was't getting to them (very common with a loose/bad VGA cable, theoretically could be an issue with the electronics in the panel I'm guessing, but not nearly as likely).

Got my 37W3 from Costco today. Its got 1 stuck green pixel towards the very top of the display (nigh impossible to notice). Firmware version is 1.0 and the box looks like UPS played Rugby with it...

So I guess the short version is, there is no way to calibrate the color via some sort of Service menu on this unit? Lots of forum crawling, and all I got was how to find out the Firmware version #... Can Anybody give me a definitive on this?

I saw the 42" W2's service menu trick with the Volume minus & Input, then power On, but that doesn't work on this.

The color is off on this badboy, and since its gonna be used as a TV, I don't want to calibrate via some video card interface, any suggestions?

Side by side comparison with the 42-W2, I would say size difference is marginal, but color looks way better on the 42 (granted that one IS calibrated).
