I am sure I'm not alone in thinking this is probably not the best career move. Then again, she might just be in it for the big pay day. We all know what the hustle at Yahoo is...get CEO position, get fired/ousted months later and walk with millions in severance pay. WIN!

Mayer, who starts at Yahoo Inc. on Tuesday, was one of Google's earliest employees and was most recently responsible for its mapping, local and location services. Mayer, 37, began her career at Google in 1999 after getting her master's degree at Stanford, the school Google's co-founders attended.

This is a very safe move for her.

At Google she is likely stuck at executive and CEO > executive any day.

Yahoo is a sinking ship that can't be blamed on her.

If she makes improvements she'll look like a complete bad ass and if she doesn't its because Yahoo is too dead to be saved.

5 years from now she'll likely be a CEO and a company that isn't already dead.

Shes definitely doable...I wouldn't say HOT but shes pretty.

As far as becoming Yahoo CEO goes all I can say is congratulations! That's awesome I think, especially at her ago (isn't 37 pretty young to be CEO of such a major company?).

She has what looks to be....crazy eyes. You know the kind that says "what do you want to do today?" after picking her up from a bar the night before.

OR

"You wouldn't dare break up with me would you? I'll slit my wrist. We wouldn't want that now would we? No? That's right. You want eggs for breakfast and then go antiquing?"

You gotta have them negotiating skills when you jump up to CEO.

Back on track...

I'd give her better odds at improving Yahoo than the previous parade of screw-ups. That's not terribly high praise, but at least she knows the industry and doesn't seem addled.

As far as female CEOs go, id venture to say she is hottest one Ive ever seen. Especially in the tech world.

Example of an ugly one: Meg Whitman

massive pay upgrade, massive challenge upgrade. since she is already as rich as god, she probably took this for the fun of it only.

she's cute. Based on google image search, she has her ugly days.
she does clean up pretty well though.
She would be perfect for one of those lady-boss pornos.

I've met her a few times, easily one of the smartest people I've ever met. Like scarily so.

Unlikely that she's taken it for the money, she has what can only be described as a metric fuck ton from Google so it must be the challenge and the chance to turn it round.

Will be interesting to see which direction Yahoo goes in, can't see her doing a Stephen Elop for Google as they're only worth pocket change anyway. Definitely going to be interesting opportunity.

As for the normal [H] commennts on women, usually frustrates but she is pretty attractive as a person for sure, not even looks or the fact she's perfectly dressed. Just assertive, confident, ridiculously switched on. She made me a bit gushy every time.

I was thinking of posting that pic, and I agree with your last sentence

As one of Google's earliest employees, Mayer already is extremely wealthy because of the stock options she received before the company went public in 2004. Yahoo didn't immediately define the terms of her contract as its new CEO.

HIGHLY doubt this has anything to do with money. It's way more likely she wants to be the boss and right a sinking ship.

I think this is a huge loss for Google.

She was one of the key factors I think Google took off past all the search engines of yesterday, such as metalcrawler, hotbot, altavista.. and that's because she was the head of layout/design as well as being an engineer.

She created the simple look of Google that everyone loved and started to use and eventually became THE most notable thing about google's front page.

In any case, Marissa Mayer's departure I hope does not lead to a collapse in the design integrity of the front page.

If someone had offered me millions of dollars to clean out a sewer and I knew I would get payed even if I didn't do a good job, I would take it too.

I don't envy her beyond that. It's gonna take some serious work to get that ball out of the gutter.

Bite your tongue! I'm 39 and I'm still a sexy looking gentleman. :p

Yeah, but guys only get more distinguished when they get older, right? Women, on the other hand... :p

(j/k...but society agrees)

You monkeys had better keep you hands off, or you will get a smack.

That sounds awfully like narcissism.

Only humans want to be the chief rat of a sinking ship.

Many lols to be had when this cute woman makes Yahoo a decent company (again? I guess?).

Judging by the history of execs at Yahoo I have 2 words for this girl:

golden parachute.

LOL, you guys sound really young, 37 is still young

Fuck yea it is. Anyone saying 37 is old is a dumb ass. 37 is still very young. Still still looks very good, wouldn't have guessed she was 37, probably younger. Jeez, you kids must be 14 to think 37 is old.

Bastards, I turn 37 in 2 weeks.

Her estimated net worth is 300 Million. That's more than even "run Countrywide into the ground and pull the ripcord on my golden parachute as Bank of America hoovers up the remains" money. She's definitely not doing this for the money.

Also, I'm almost 37, have a computer science degree, and not nearly as wealthy as her. What gives?

fucking oompa-loompa!!!

and i'll +1 the crazy eyes.. or porn eyes. not sure which they are.
