This is the only real shot I have to convince my GF to upgrade from her worn out 4 year old Windows Phone, so let's all repeat this mantra:

* Please include headphone jack dongle Please include headphone jack dongle Please include headphone jack dongle *

As expected, we're going to have to sit through 45 minutes of boasting about prior successes and products we don't care about before we get to the phone stuff. It's Apple all over again.

It's Apple all over again.

As much as I can't stand Apple from top to bottom, they do put on a good presentation of their products and services and there's just no other company that does it quite the same. This one with Google is as expected confusing and not very cohesive IMO so far, was watching it till a moment ago when the stream choked and died on me (and no, it ain't MY connection that has the issue, it's somewhere upstream before it gets to me because other video streams in progress had no issues and still work) and whenever the introduce a new person the music kicks in and that's just not a welcome thing, really.

Anyway, all the info that matters about the Pixel revamp is already known as it is so, nothing really to see here.

Why if it still works and does everything she need then why force her to a new phone. You are lucky she not one of those that needs the newest model of everything apple releases. O would still be using my Samsung Galaxy 5 if my sister-in-law didn't break it.

Any girl that's not a complete shut in is going to have friends on social apps. Wphone is a dead platform and the apps are mostly abandonware.

Stick a new Android in her hand and she'll be in heaven.

"Worn out" was a polite way of saying her phone is effectively dead. She loves the Windows Phone system, but her handset gets <8 hours of no-use battery in power savings mode (sealed battery of course), and since she's on Verizon, there hasn't been a new(er) option for her. To top it off, DPI is right, her apps are no longer being updated and the ones she needs just stopped working. I've been trying to get her on a new phone for awhile now, but it wasn't until the apps died that she agreed it was time. The Pixel 2 has a good chance of being her phone for the next 4 years if she likes it.

Grrrrrr, no headphone jack. What is up with this sudden rush to get rid of it? I know they give you a free dongle, but you can't be expected to carry that everywhere you go. BT headphones suck so the only good way to get good sound is with regular cans.

No headphone jack...awesome just want I want, more cables around office and home you stupid twat designers

How can no one clue in

Bluetooth headphones = Charger required

I listen to music at work and home etc, so Now I need to buy 2 bluetooth headphones and have to use another outlet at each location

Depending on model, may require a different charger completely rather than USB-C
Not to mention how ugly most of them are, the adjustable bud ones excluded. Giant headgear ones not cool

Rather than letting me plug headphones in via jack.

I hoped the rumors about the headphone jack were false. Looks like I'll be buying something other than Google's phone for the first time in a long time.

Why must Google copy stupid ideas ......no headphone jack equals a hard pass for me......now you are required to buy new headphones which are far more expensive than the wired ones I ALREADY HAVE.

Whole event was Google selling us on some bullshit. $999 for a glorified web browsing machine, Jesus. Paying a premium, on top of relinquishing all of your info, seems like a great deal.

I will say this, none of these "flagship" phones are worth a thousand bucks.

Also, as an android fan, i will say, get her an iphone.

Buy her either a 6S or a 7, which are cheap used, since a lot of people are trying to get rid of them to get a 8.

Those devices are more than capable and have nothing to envy any of these new phones.

Personally, at those prices, I will never buy a new flagship phone, I'm buying used.

Fuck them.

They’ve all done their presentation training like good little droids but they really need ‘zip’, most weren’t montone but were not far off.

I could have had a drinking game on the use of the word experiences.

Bizarrely though it was the speaker that most interested me. I’ve fallen out with sonos and if the voice integration is that good i’ll probably be sold (I have a proper hi-fi in my study, this is just around the house)

I'll stick with my OnePlus 5. It has absolutely been the best phone i have ever had. Its freakish fast at loading apps, camera is getting better with every update. BT sounds amazing no connection issues or disconnects what so ever. Battery life is AMAZING. Fuck paying 1grand for a phone. Nope Not gonna do it. Came from Nexus 5x

I assume so, it let me order a 2 and a 2 XL while signing up for Fi.

Yea, I just looked into it myself.

Might be something worth doing. I like the Nexus 5X I've got but battery life is terrible... or Pokemon Go is just a battery killing monster.

I was in the same boat too initially, then I sat down and thought about how much I actually use the headphone jack. Hardly ever. And a dongle is included for hardwire buds. I caved when I saw they would give me $410 back on my current phone.

$649 is right in her budget for a new phone, plus it has good long term support potential and she's considering moving to Fi (and a dongle). She spends enough time at work helping people troubleshoot their iPhones (senior IT helpdesk/system analyst) to know she'll never buy one.

Definitely PoGo, on my S7 I can watch it drain the battery, but if I switch over to Ingress the drain is noticeably slower.

Blah. Courage would have been if they took away the headphone jack and gave it wireless charging plus top AND bottom usb c ports. I really don't mind if the 3.5mm jack goes away, but at least replace it with something better i.e. more usb ports.

I'm not sure what that means. An eSim?
It's the old Verizon model. Sim baked in to hardware, so instead of moving it to new devices, you have to call up or visit a website and switch devices on the carrier end.

What's old is new again.

TL;DR It's a "virtual SIM", programmable instead of hardwired to a carrier. It's probably the future.

And what the hell are they doing to those iphones that are working so bad?

We pretty much have standardized on iphones because they just work, so I’m really curious.

But hey, if you think that she will be happy, by all means, get it.
